I have never been interested in FW nor had any desire to buy one.
Went to sewing store to buy bobbins. Walking out saw this sitting in the aisle and stopped to admire it. Clerk said it was for sale on consignment for $200. After watching it sew, bought it. They had just put it out so it was meant to be mine.

Sure is cute.

congratulations----funny how machines find there way to the right person sometimes, isn't it? Have fun with your featherweight....I couldn't add photos from my DH's macbook pro, either. Maybe it's an apple thing.

Today i wandered into Habitat Restore. I've been looking for a cabinet to drop one of my current machines into. They had 2 cabinets with machines. Both were singers. The first cabinet was laminate with no drawers, but it did have the fold down top so the workspace is big. The machine was filthy. Thats ok cuz i'm only interested in the cabinet. The second cabinet was solid wood with two drawers but the workspace is smaller. The cabinet is "The Summit, a sleek, contemporary". (Contemporary to 1970). But, i examined the machine, its a singer model 728 from 1970. Its not very dirty and things move. That settled it for me, thats the cabinet and machine i bought. $40... Now i'm thinking i can clean the machine up and keep it in the cabinet. Ummm...that makes 5 machines and i only have two hands, not ten! I just can't seem to pass up these deals. I bought a 1975 Kenmore at the Restore a few months ago for $35 and its my favorite machine.

I've never seen any sewing items in our ReStore, but I don't stop a lot. I'll have to stop by more often.

The last time I was at our Restore they had 12 machines waiting to be loved. I was so surprised! One of the 201s one's crying out to me as I left... poor baby!

Yep, the Restore is fabulous. You just have to check every week. Its a madhouse on saturdays. I'm hoping to find a featherweight there some day.

We've got a bunch of consignment malls around here. One is 3 floors of what used to be a big department store. So, I'm guessing I won't be finding machines at our ReStore.

Congratulations on your Featherweight! I hope you will enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine. I got mine to take to classes; but I find that I am sewing on it every day. I have my Bernina set up for free motion quilting and use the Featherweight for piecing. I love that little machine!

I was at our Restore today and saw three machines in cabinets, all very dirty and not any that I needed to add to my 11. But while I was there I talked with the lady who manages the place. She goes to church with my daughter who told her I like to tinker with vintage machines. She took me into her office and showed me a Featherweight that she says doesn't work and asked if I would work on it. So I brought it home with me, plugged it in and it seemed to work just fine. Kinda dirty and needs some good cleaning and oiling. Haven't put any fabric in yet or threaded it, so we will see tomorrow what happens. I'm too tired right now. I will post pics of it on the Vintage Machines thread tomorrow, if my uploads cooperate.

Our restore has had machines several times, but so far none have come home with me.

Ongrats on your featherweight! My ONLY problem with the two I have is that I don't have space to keep them out all the time!! They are workhorses for sure! I still haven't figured out how to use my 99k, there just isn't enuff time in the day!! Well...it could be my time management skills...:)

I have heard a lot about fw but do not own one. What are they like? People who have them seem to enjoy them a lot.

They are so cute- they look like little toys, but you soon forget the size and how small they are when you start sewing on them and realize just how neat they sew and they are really little "Clydesdales". I have two in my small collection of six machines. DH has one he bought years ago for $10.00 can you believe with case and all attachments. A lady who worked in his office with him- was having a garage sale and told him about the machine knowing that I sew. He claims it and when I used it once he wanted to know why I was using "His" machine, ticked me off so I bought my first one then on Ebay, and bought my second one at a garage sale for $100.00. The first time I used my first FW, he saw me sewing with it and started to say something, I interrupted and told him it wasn't his but mine I had just bought it.Yes you know the rest of the story- he has never used it and doesn't even know how to thread it, but claims it, and I just leave his baby alone.lol.

I bought my FW a little over a year ago and love it. It is a great little machine to take to class and is so cute.

I love mine so much that I bought a second one as a back up. It's not like I don't have 23 other machines, but I want to make sure I always have a FW to sew on!

Until I stumbled upon the one I just bought, I had no interest whatsoever in a featherweight; now I am enchanted! I have no room in my sewing room so is now displayed in living room. Can't wait to have time to sew on iy!

My parents gave me a second hand Kenmore machine in 1981 and it is a workhorse. I used it for years before I bought my new Hus-Viking quilter. I used my Kenmore at a Girl Scout Event helping girls to make Breast Cancer pillows. It ran for about 5 hours straight. It got warm but just kept humming! Great machine but heavy!

What a sweet little machine. I'm sure you will enjoy working on it. I have mine with me on vacation....never know when I will need to sit down for a while and quilt. Oh, I bought a pair of jeans on sale and will need to shorten them. Just great to have her along!!
