my first go to shop for most recently released fabric is fabric.com

they always have 15% off coupon codes, just do a google search and you'll find them and shipping is free at $35 instead of $50. they also have a rewards program and give you gift certs based on how much you've spent over time.

current fabric is typically priced at $8.98 and with 15% off that comes down to $7.63.

i just ordered Kaufman Christmas Holiday fabric from their Flourish Collection for $6.49 a yard (on sale with a 15% coupon code) and shipping was free because i spent more then $35.

they have sales daily and weekly so sign up for the newsletter

they have sale fabric all the time and routinely put out coupon codes for 20-30% off the sale fabric.

then the next place i shop at often is Thousands of Bolts - they do not have free shipping but fabric is around $4.50 a yard and batiks are $5.95 a yard (cheaper then connecting threads and these are Hoffman, Kaufman, etc).

i also shop at Quilt Fabric Closeouts prices are around $5.60 and go down from there.

Whittles Fabric is also another great place to shop with fabric costing $6 or less.

all of these sites sell the top brand manufacturers and provide excellent service. i have even sent them scraps to have them match up colors for me.

i suggest you sign up for all there newsletters so that you know the sales and any discount offers they have.

I don't know for sure - this is just a guess - but I think that CT can keep the prices lower because they have the batiks made to their specs and then sell direct through their internet site rather than through quilt stores or other sites. I think their product is very good. It may be thinner than some, but it's better than most others. I don't like the really thick batiks (got some of those long ago from JoAnn's). The ones from CT have a good feel.

I love my batiks from Connecting threads and found they stitched up beautifully in my projects.

Juliebelle 09-29-2011 03:14 AM

I use them all the time, some of the fabrics are a bit thinner then name brands but has never been an issue and I think their thread is wonderful

Quilt 09-29-2011 03:21 AM

Thank you--thank for for all this information about Connecting Threads. I just got their catalog and loved all the fabric choices but was wondering about their quality. I love their prices and plan to order soon.

ragqueen03 09-29-2011 03:22 AM

love their thread!!! some of the fabric not too crazy about. love their charms!

Texaspeggy 09-29-2011 03:22 AM

Yes, I am a Junkie,but

live almost a hundred miles from any where, so where I am there is only Wal-Mart and one local quilt shop.
I have not ordered any fabric on line, but have ordered notions and Books, mostly from Amazon,,,, I have been pleased with those things.
I bought a lot of material from WW , when I was building my stash, but I was careful in what I bought, but with the newer fabric they are bringing in here, it is packaged and I don't like that, I like to feel what I am buying, I do raid the remmant box, but a lot of times they don't have a lot.
I sew mostly for family, g-g kids, so I do some clothing as well.

If I want really good material, I go to the quilt shop, I like to support the local business, but I have to watch what I buy, due to the ecomany and a fixed income.
I am not really a fan of fat quarters, but have some, however I like the yardage better,
I just bought a new Joname7700, more for the harp space than any thing else, I will have a new g-g child in June, so will be making quilts and baby blankets, maybe bumper pads, I have a stash of baby blankets, burb clothes and bibs ready to donate to a charity, and some crocheted things, but can/t handle the crochet much any more because of my hands,
Sorry about the long post.

I bought their thread and I love it! There are 1,200 yards per spool and I bought a dozen this summer when they had a sale on them and I am still on the first one and have already made one big quilt and am working on a coverlet now! I love the thread. I stand by them 100%. Edie

i have been happy with the fabric i have bought . i think it is nice stuff.

teddysmom 09-29-2011 03:38 AM

Have never ordered from them bofore now. Just sent in an order for a Fons & Porter Design Wall (60 x 72) for $19.99. Also ordered the Hugs & Kisses quilt kit. Hope I'm not disappointed.

teddysmom 09-29-2011 03:39 AM

Is this machine thread or hand quilting thread? I was also wondering about the quality of their thread?

tntgranny 09-29-2011 03:42 AM

Never had a problem with anything I have ordered from them. Quilt kits have very generous amounts of fabric. Thread is very good quality. Like to search their sales - have gotten great "blender" fabrics to use as quilt backs - very reasonable. Service is great - shipping is very quick.

MOCKER 09-29-2011 03:51 AM

I THINK THAT YOU WILL BE HAPPY WITH THIER PRODUCTS, THE SERVICE IS GOOD AND FREE SHIPPING OVER FIFTY DOLLARS.

Wanabee Quiltin 09-29-2011 03:58 AM

I just received the batiks in a charm pack. It was so cheap I thought I could not resist. I think they are georgous. I bought the oranges and yellows and they are in all ranges of colors from very light to very dark. The fabric feels wonderful and I will be buying some more soon. I was told about 6 years ago about the thread and started buying it then. My Bernina Aurora is very picky and it sews just fine with their thread. I find it to be more linty than some of the more expensive brands but I just clean out the space under the needle every 3 bobbins and then always have to clean out the bobbin area every 6 bobbins used. No matter what thread I use, I clean and oil after 6 bobbins.

Debbie B 09-29-2011 04:16 AM

I have not bought anything from Connecting Threads, but just a few days ago got my first sales catalog in the mail. I really liked the prices that I saw on cone thread and was wondering which cone thread that you all buy?

hcarpanini 09-29-2011 04:17 AM

I have never ordered fabric, only books when on sale!

Maureen 09-29-2011 04:31 AM

I wrote to this board several months ago with the same question and got similar answers. I ordered once, twice, three times and never looked back. I have never been dissapointed.

sueisallaboutquilts 09-29-2011 04:37 AM

I buy batiks and thread at Connecting Threads and like them very much.
I'm not wild about their other fabric though.
They have great customer service!!! Nice to do business with.

330doris 09-29-2011 04:42 AM

I love their thread! I love that I can keep the catalog near for fabric collections. The fabric washes well also.

cjaye44 09-29-2011 04:46 AM

I have ordered from them several times and have never been disappointed. I especially like their thread.

MargeD 09-29-2011 04:47 AM

I have always been pleased with everything that I order from Connecting Threads. It is not poor quality fabric.

bonnyh 09-29-2011 04:55 AM

They are much thinner than LQS and therefore, I have a questions as well. I have a Bargello with a Twist class this weekend. We were asked to bring extra fabric from our stash for additional color choices. My extras are from my LQS and all the rest from Connecting Threads - so I have mostly thin and a few heavier pieces. What's going to happen when I put them together. I'm envisioning all kinds of problems. Anyone know?

obsessedwithquilting 09-29-2011 04:56 AM

Fabric is nice enough but shipping takes forever. On my first order it took almost 4 weeks! I thought it was lost in the mail. But I tried them again and it took 3 weeks and a few days.

Has anyone else had a problem with slow shipping?

nlpakk 09-29-2011 04:58 AM

I have used their thread and a few of their fabrics and have been very happy with both so far, haven't tried the Batiks though.

nlpakk 09-29-2011 04:59 AM

All my orders have come quickly.

Sunnye 09-29-2011 05:01 AM

Threads:
I'm wondering why some of you have a problem with CT's thread, i.e. lint in bobbin area and some love it?
Could it be differences in sewing machines?

I have not used their thread and am just wondering. I have a Baby Lock and have a lot of lint from all my threads used (name brand, "good" quality).

misscarol 09-29-2011 05:04 AM

I've not ordered fabric from them, but I LOVE their thread!!

pegc 09-29-2011 05:04 AM

I and my machines love their threads, they do much better than some of the expensive ones I have used. I have some material and am waiting to start the projects.

I love CT and order from them frequently

katlady3 09-29-2011 05:12 AM

There fabrics are as good a quality as any of the fabric stores. I really like their thread & order a lot of it as the colors are so nice & the quality of the thread is very good.

Mine have always come rather quickly. I don't think that I have ever waited more than 5 days for the order to arrive.

Also, I had the same question about thread usage -- why some find it linty while others love it. I haven't used much of it, but what I have used I found to be just as good as any thread that I have used on my machine. No more lint than any other. I wonder why there is such a difference in users??

lillybeck 09-29-2011 05:18 AM

I am always happy with them.

Jennifer22206 09-29-2011 05:18 AM

I have one not so LQS that charges over $15 a yard for batik, and they only go up in price from there. I do like CT batiks - I've ordered only 2, and I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality. I do not like the heavy and waxy feel of batik (makes it much harder for me to quilt) and I do like the CT ones.

I've ordered a lot of their fabric, and in my opinion its very good for the price! Yes, there are other "name brand" fabrics out there that you can get for just as cheap or cheaper, but I do love some of the fabrics from CT. :)

Me too and the newest catalog is so tempting. I've bought their batiks and they are fine I think. I also get all my thread from them when they have sales.

I was wondering if the batting in the newest catalog is a good price or not?

CarrieC 09-29-2011 05:23 AM

I buy from them all the time. I had never considered buying the charm packs - you can bet I'm going home tonight to order those! What a GREAT IDEA!.

I've never had a problem nor have I ever been disappointed by anything I've purchased from them.

Moommist13344 09-29-2011 05:34 AM

Just purchased from Connecting Threads, I have never been disappointed. I will not purchase from my LQS, because they will not service my longarm because I bought it used even through the person I purchased it from had it sitting in their shop because she bought a new one from them. When I called to see if they would service it, they told me to call the factory. If they wouldn't service my machine (they advertise service)why should I purchase $10.50 to 15.00 per yard fabric from them or support them.

jamsbuying 09-29-2011 05:45 AM

Great question as I was wondering also. Just got a catalogue from them.
