And why couldn't I have thought of that before?

It just occurred to me, almost halfway through, that I don't need to stitch through the exact middle of my blocks 8 times. Besides it being so hard (for me) to line up the stitching lines, it can't be good for the seam to have that big needle poking through over and over. I decided to try stitching almost to the center and then doubling back, half the time, and I like it better. Now I have the schematic hanging over my machine, to remind me where to go! What do you think?

This is the old way:

I think that is a fantastic solution! It's a great block, too!

Smart!

We're all learning as we go, so nothing wrong with not having thought of it from the beginning.

Well done!

That was a wonderful "light bulb" moment for you. Don't you just love it when that happens? That's a beautiful quilt block.

Beautiful block! Smart thinking!

That's a great idea. Some people have suggested unsewing several of the seams right at the center to prevent the major lump of fabric. I like stopping at the 1/4" seam and back sewing. I would not have done the first method because of fear that the seam would eventually come undone.

Just curious....did you iron your seams to the dark? Or maybe did you iron them open?

How beautiful! Are you using a curved ruler or free hand?
