I wash mine because I have a cat and a dog. My cat thinks that he own everything including whatever I am working on.

I do press them afterwards, but I have not made any really big things in years, mostly crib quilts.... |
The one thing I always do is to use a color catcher when I wash them. I have never had a problem with bleeding, even on a red and white quilt.

Ontheriver is right on! I always worry that the quilt will come apart! I like the look of a quilt after being washed. It says "look at me"!

Ditto and like others said, a quilt gets dirty from handling and oils from hands, dust from sitting.

I don't necessarily wash mine--only if I think there's a reason to do so.

I feel like it's not done till it's washed cuz thats when it fluffs up and I can see what it looks like with the quilting :)

Parts of my quilts have been on the floor as I quilt or sew on the binding so I want the quilt clean and smelling good. If need be I press it lightly( I use cotton batting for this reason). :D :-D
