I think it is a good idea to support your small, independent shop so I try to buy a little there but I also like to save so I go on line for specials.

Quite frankly, the independent shops I go to smell better, too. I don't have to put up with potpourri, candle, or fertilizer smells that make me sneeze.

LOL, my LQS has something on the door, makes it sound like a bird squalking every time you enter.

Personally I like the quality of the fabric from the quilt stores over fabric from the other places although I shop at a variety of places. In general I prefer the quilt store because the fabric has a different look and feel to it. Also depends on the look I am wanting to achieve with the finished product.

I think sometimes you just need to fondle the fabric LOL

Oh my, I couldn't imagine life without a quilt shop. Are you kidding ! Just walking in the door and seeing the fabric and all the quilted samples makes me drool. It's just the same when you see fabric online. You need the touch and feel session with all the fabric you are auditioning. Oh my and don't forget about the repor you build with the shop owners and their workers. Quilt, quilt, quilt !

I go for the quality of the fabric and friendly, helpful service that our LQS provide. Samples that they have hanging and patterns, patterns, patterns! Also being able to touch and stroke quality fabric.

Because quality and selection of fabrics is better. You get what you pay for.

I prefer LQS or reputable online quilt stores, because they carry first run fabrics. Also, it is more fun to see and feel at the LQS.

Also, as others have said, you can ask questions and get help from staff at LQS.

JoAnn's and WalMart usually buy second run fabrics.

At 72 yrs, I don't get around too much, so most fabric shopping is done at one of the many online stores. Be careful with online shopping - Only purchase "Free Shipping" and only purchase "Sale items". Some online store is always offering
40-50% discount and Free shipping over a certain amount.
Shop Joann's online, but only with 40-50% coupons. Shop Wal-mart's when I'm out and about (always find cheaper fabric, remembering that "you get what you pay for", so Walmart may not always be top quality.
