As long as they were not damaged. They need to be washed sometimes anyway to be freshened. Maybe he was proud of them and wanted his friends to enjoy them. I dont make art quilts..only quilts to be used.

Before I can offer any more opinions:

Where were the quilts?

Were these quilts hanging on a wall?
Were they on beds?
Were they folded up on a couch?

You made a comment about them being on "dirty floors" -

I would guess that the boys would have chosen to sleep on carpeted floors - my quilts don't get dirty enough to need washing after spending a few hours on my carpets.

You made another comment about "stinky teen-age boys" -
Why did you say that? They may have been, but are you sure?

Were the quilts neatly folded up?
or
Were they in wads on the floor?

If the kids had removed quilts from walls and used them, I would definitely be upset.

If they had removed a white quilt from the guest room that no one even breathes in, I would be upset.

If they were just in wads/piles/tossed, I would be upset.

Need more details to know how much empathy I might have for your situation.

And we still don't know if they were damaged in any way.

Bummer.

Though my first thought was that you had been robbed. Several of the stories on Lostquilt.com are about quilts that were used to carry out other items that the thieves were stealing.

Hopefully they will all wash well.

Cheers, K

If YOU don't wallow your quilts on the floor then HE should have known better. Having company over and having a continuing overnight party are two different things. Did you check for 'empties'? Was there a lingering 'herbal' odor.

To the 'quilt police'--how this lady chooses to use or not use her quilts has nothing to do with the disrespect shown. She does not need a lecture on charity quilting or to hear how quilts are made to drag around or how GSs are more important than quilts. Dang. She knows that already. :hunf:

I would have him help me wash the quilts. I believe that quilts were made to be used and bless his heart that is what he and his friends did.

I can't tell you how many times I had to show the child what quilts and blankets he can use and what ones are like stories and masterpieces that will cause permanent grounding if he touches.

Maybe you can put some kind of design on the back of quilts to be used and another one that is not to be used.
Take care.

I know this is tramatic now but it is one of the small things in life. Maybe you can post a sign on the wuilts saying "not for use, just look" and leave some that can be used by your DGS's friends next time.
Take care.
