Why sell Janomes on TV?
We are on vacation in much-warmer-than New England Florida and I caught one of the shopping channels selling a red horizon for less than $700 with no shipping. Why would Janome do this? It was a little tempting but I remembered what I've read about the bugs when this machine came out. Anyway, I was surprised to see this. What are your thoughts?

From what I can find out, HSN is contacted by a manufacturer and HSN gives specifications to what they want if they sell the item. It has to be a better buy then going to the store, maybe the same price as a store but with many bonus and extras that come in a package. HSN doesn't like a lot of returns so it has to pass their quality control. I'm sure other shopping channels are the same way. If you watch the sewing shows on HSN most sell out in a day. That's thousands of machines sold.

Interesting. I wish I had seen that show.
|
Maybe to reach a different demographic of buyers than the normal sales venues reach?
|
Ahhhhhhhhhhhh! You did not buy one? I would have snatched it up in a second, if you see it again please let me know. The used red faces are selling on Ebay for around $1,700.
I suspect it may have to do with the new 7700 being released so all the "new" red face ones need to be sold asap. I'm going to have to start staliking the silly HSN now. |
This also gives people that aren't close to a Janome dealership a chance to buy a good machine. The show was one really early here and then again during my ladies bible study - wished I could have watched it.

I do not know what bugs you are talking about but mine never had any

Hsn did not sell the Horizon, they sold another machine with a red face the Janome Quilters Computerized Sewing Machine Model #49360. It is a standard size sewing machine, not the one with the extended bed.

Babobw - there were a couple issues with the very first released - the single needle sliding plate was popping off them like popcorn, some of the feed dogs needed adjustments, and the quarter inch foot didn't work right (which Janome replaced for free to all who registered their machines). Janome worked hard to make things right. I never had any issues with mine, either, but the first ones out did. |

Yup, you were right. Now I feel a whole lot better that I didn't jump on it.

Wow, Teeler, thanks for that reminder of what's awaiting us on Saturday! It'll be back to reality soon enough...:)

I found out a guild member ordered it. I'll see it next week at a workshop. I'll post how it sews and what she thinks about it. She is a Janome girl. I know she has three Janomes.

Many times companies that sell enormous quantities of a product will contract with the manufacturer to make a specific model that is exclusively sold to that company. If you listen closely, the ad will say resembles or just like or another model of and that is how the manufacturers get large contracts for a specific company like WalMart or HSN. My neice is an executive with HSN. Usually, when you buy a new product you get what you pay for.

the machines that are sold on HSN also are available on their website so if you want to double check a machine it is still available there. I just found this out this week when I was watching HSN and was interested in one of their machines.

I have one and have had no poblem with it that would deter me from purchasng. It cost more than $2,000. Jump on it like a duck on a june bug.

The new Horizon is blue an has even more stuff and a bigger throat-bed.. They are evidently selling off excess stock. Only a few folks can afford these high end machines.

Janome has muddied the waters as far as the "Horizon" name is concerned. They called the new 8200 and 8900 "Horizon" . The 8900 and 8200 have the same harp as the 7700, but the accufeed system is different and they are 9mm quilting machines. As if that is not confusing enough, they also came out with an embroidery machine that bears the "Horizon" -- it is a larger machine than the quilting machines and it is expensive. Donna -- I think this is the one you mean. |
You can go to the HSN website and set up to get an email notification when they have a janome, singer or whatever event upcoming. I just got one today. It's super simple.
|
There we go...as if sales of Fat Quarters isn't enough to do it...let's get pre-notice of the BIG stuff! LOL! (How come they don't have huge "President's Day Janome" sales events on TV/Radio??? bwahahahah

This is the machine you are referring to. No, it is not the Horizon 7770. It is Janome 49360, probably made for HSN. Be sure to watch the video.
http://www.hsn.com/products/janome-q...-49360/7074423 This machine is wonderful! I bought it from HSN. I had it in my sewing room two days later; got it yesterday. I've tested all the features and it is a great machine. I got it to take to classes; it is 12 pounds. The features are amazing, including sewing with or without the foot pedal, needle up/down, pattern completion, and more. I want to do thread painting with it; I'm taking a Nancy Prince class and she requires a machine that can zig zag (sideways) and straight stitch with the feed dogs drooped. This does. It has a free arm and every stitch or capability any quilting instructor might want. It free motion quilts, it straight line quilts, and it has an amazing assortment of feet, everything I could possibly want. It's harp is 6 3/4 inches; the Pfaff on which I quilt many quilts is 7 inches. I was surprised. It's a great buy for $599. I have 30 days to return it should I find it unsatisfactory. Do you think it's going back? I don't! (he, he, he) |

Really? It said the msn price was $1230 and it sure looked like the Horizon. Glad I didn't buy it if this is true. DH was really pushing for me to.

If you value having a dealer, you won't have that service. But if you just want the machine, you should jump all over the deal!

This has been an interesting discussion!
