When I purchased my Bernina 830 last year, there was a $2000 difference between two shops in the US. I was shocked to say the least! I had done a huge amount of business (a 200e Bernina when they came out plus a number of classes and I can't tell you how many yards of fabric) previously with the one shop that was the higher price. Very disappointing to say the least.

Well I managed to get £100 off so I'm pretty pleased with that! My haggling technique was to ask him why they are so much cheaper in America! He said they've considered buying their stock in from America because of the huge difference, but the machines are a different spec.
He gave me the £100 off as a trade in, even though we didn't trade our cheapy machine in. He said they have lots of old machines to be thrown away and he would assign one of those as our trade in!
I'm really pleased with it, it's still in the box atm but I shall be getting to know it today! It's a monster size compared to the other one we have!

Probably import tax and the cost of shipping. I was shocks years ago to see the prices of Hoffman fabrics in Canada, I am not sure you could buy an American DSM because our power systems are so different. Good luck with your search.

I got the f600 in the end, I figured I'm (hopefully) only going to invest once so might as well! Haven't got it set up yet as I'm a bit tired but I'll get it sorted this afternoon!

It is smart to buy from a dealer where ever you are in case you do need help with the machine.

I bought that machine here from Amazon and it was just under $600. Wow., I sure feel your pain for the price you are going to have to pay.

I just did a quick Google search and discovered (to my horror!) that the price of the machine in America is $1049, which works out at just under £700. The price of it here is £1399! That's double! I honestly just can't believe it!
Does anyone know why there is such a massive difference? I'm tempted to order it from the US and get a transformer for it! although then I'd miss out on the after sale support!

I know where you are coming from as I buy most of my fabrics and threads from over the pond, but remembering a TV prog on the dangers of buying cameras and mobile phones whilst abroad, you will most likely have problems with warranty and repairs, just for starters (: BTW What machine are you looking at?
