Magna Glide has the magnetic core on one side. No way to install the bobbin wrong side first and no more backlash.

I love the ease and convenience of pre-wound bobbins. The embroidery machine uses them for embroidery and I often use them for piecing. I just ordered a box of 80 for approx $30 so less than 40 cents each.
Yes, there is a great winder on my machine and I do use it. It's nice to have options. |
My frugal has become to mean convience with value..

I have an electric bobbin winder and wind my own bobbins. I have bobbin cases for each color of thread I use. Each of my bobbin cases holds 36 bobbins, and I usually use 36 or slightly less, sometimes a few more per quilt depending on the pattern.
At the end of making each quilt, I rewind the bobbins to fill the bobbin case back up, then I'm ready to go for the next time I use that color. I keep 14 thread colors on hand and haven't had any need for more colors. There is always a color that will go with my quilt out of those 14 colors. I also use the same color thread for both the top and bottom threads. |
Wow! 36 bobbins per quilt. That is a ot of thread. How much thread is wound on your bobbin?
|
This is one of those things that I've never understood, either. I wind maybe half a dozen at a time of white, light gray, dark gray, off white.
As I understand it, they make more sense for LA's than domestic sewing machines. I'm sure that I do plenty of things that people would shake their heads at, too. |

It is a regular size bobbin, a Brother SA159 metal bobbin. All of my thread is a 40wt. |
