I like the feel of unwashed fabric, and I'm too lazy to re-stiffen the limp washed fabric.

I like the body in unwashed fabric. I always wash when the quilt is done. I will occasionally wash something that screams "BLEEDER" just to be safe (red flannel, especially).

Lazy....too time consuming.

I prefer unwashed fabrics to work with. I tried washing some vintage fabric and it was a bugger to work with.
1. The sizing, despite ironing and spray starch, was not the same as the original fabric. Never again.
2. Washing and ironing are too time consuming especially before work in the morning.
3. I like the feel of unwashed fabric.

I agree with almost every answer you have gotten so far!!! I love having that little bit of stiffness that new fabric has when working with it. It makes it easier for me to handle. I also hate to wash and iron. So what if it shrinks a little. It makes it all cozy and antique looking. Color catchers really work when it does have to be washed. All of that hoopla is just wasted time!

I don't prewash and I wash my projects when finished and get all the starch and glue and basting spray out then. I always use one or more color catchers. I don't want to press all that, but I take that back, i washed all my batiks and ironed them. I do not know why I did that.

I don't think pre-washing is as common here as it is with you guys. In fact, I don't actually know anyone who does! This may be due to the fact we're a cold, rainy, country with astronomical fuel costs, lol.

I usually don't pre-wash because I like the puckery old timey look when you wash after completion. I too believe in Color Catchers.

I know that the quilt will be washed with color catchers when finished.

I prewashed everything one time because I was taking a class and it was part of the instructions. I haven't and won't since. I ended up using so much best press and it never did iron out as well as unwashed fabric. I prefer to wash the completed quilt with a color catcher. And just to be really scandalous, if I'm just making a quilt for fun and have no intended recipient, I still might not wash it even after its finished. I have several that I've just folded up and put in a closet! My hobby, my rules.
