Width of strips for a chevron quilt?
I want to make a chevron quilt by using strips, not HSTs. I don't know whether to cut my strips 3" or 3 1/2". I'm thinking 3 1/2 so the pattern in the feature fabric can show up. I hate to cut the elephants up too much. Any thoughts??

When I make a chevron quilt with strips, I cut the pieces 3.5"x6.5". When you sew them together you get a 6.5"x6.5" block to make the chevron.

I have done a Chevron quilt with two strips sewn together. I think I cut the strips 3.5"

Thank you for reinforcing what I was thinking. I will start cutting as soon as I return from walking my dogs.

I did mine with a jelly roll, but I don't see why you can't cut yours at 3.5" instead of 2.5". As long as your cross-cuts are square (the same width and height), you'll get a beautiful chevron pattern.

moda bakeshop.com has a pattern for strips. called Double Chevron.

this is the size I use

Thank you, everyone. It's coming together very well after I remembered how to place the blocks. I'm sewing two 3.5" strips together and cutting them to 6.5" blocks after pressing.
