The sale is Nov 8th from 9-2. Not very long. This weekend I quilted the last baby quilt and the last eight table runners. I cut and prepared the bindings for those 8 items. This week I'll get the bindings sewed on, then start finishing them by hand; I can sew 1-2 a night, if I don't have corrections. If I still have time after these are done, I'll finish one last wall hanging top (Patriotic Hearts), then make pillow cases. I'll be glad when this is behind me because there are so many projects I've been dreaming about starting. :shock:

If I am out of my mind and consider this again next year, it's only going to be bookmarks and pillowcases. :wink:

Well, Karla..you have a great collection of stuff to offer. I wish you well...hope you sell out of stuff. You can start early for next yr. though :wink: Good luck with the sale!

There is also another I found out about that will be right down the street from me. Not sure if I will do that one or not, but that one gets ALOT of tourists, so it might be something to look into. I also don't know the date on that one.
I still have more to do, I don't think I have near as much as I think I should have.

MrsJ82.....check your local craft stores, community centers, schools, churches, etc. They should have the answers for you. I know in Hawaii, there are TONS at the schools starting in Nov and there are banners and flyers out everywhere for them. If there aren't any...why not find out about organizing one yourself?

Karla-I agree with Terri-you need to take a picture of everything you are selling to show us. I know you have been hard at work for months and I wish you success at the fair. Your work is fab, so you should do very well!

I wish you all kinds of luck on your first bazaar!!! I have a big one coming up at the end of month. Just finished our farmers market every weekend and now will set up my booth at the mall throughout the winter. And people were asking for Christmas stuff already. So have lots of things to do!!!

I do have a question tricia! I'll have one long table, so I thought I'd put the smaller stuff in front of me, and work out. I was wondering about price tags--I don't want something sticky, but don't really want a pin in everything either. What works?

Hi! I do craft shows from May thru Dec. and love doing them. I do quilted purses, quilts of all sizes, and just started a line of quilted doggie coats =). I ended up still working on stuff thruout the summer. I thought I had enough, but had to restock when things sold. (Oh! How Awful!! LOL)
Anyway, decide where you want to do a show, check with chamber of commerces to find out dates, contact persons, costs per space, and if it is a juried show or not. (Juried just means you have to send 3 or 4 pics of your work, to make sure you're not buying to sell, and what quality of work you do.) Don't ever be afraid of juried shows. The turnout is soooo
much better, which means you sell soooo much more. You'll want to invest in a canopy/tent so you can stay out of rain/sun, which you can get at Lowes, Walmart, etc. for less than $100. Have a couple of folding tables, a chair for you to sit on, and go to it. One word of advice tho, don't take a book to read!!! That really turns people off. Take a project instead. Karla, I use tags that I made on the computer with all the info and prices on them and I use a small safety pin to put on the items. I've tried sticky price tags and they don't work. They end up falling off and sticking to other things....it was always a mess.
I did find that it was important to have everything priced in case you are helping someone else and can't answer another customer on how much it is. I know when I go to a store and there is no price on something, it makes me frustrated and I just put it back.
I also use baskets for my sets of coasters and potholders and put signs on them. Hope this helps. I hope all goes well and feel free to ask anything else!!!

Oh, totally agree with Carol--reading a book does turn people off. I always have a project to work on and people always ask what I'm working on, which creates good conversation and then they always seem to buy!!!

I remember my craft sale days. Had aprons, sock monkeys, and the likes. Fun day ! Did this with my mom. She counted the money. Something I can not do ( ! ).

Karla--Can I add a few ideas--from the buyers side of the table?? You may already do all of these things-but, if not, just some thoughts.....

I think presentation is a lot of the sell. The better your table looks with your items on it, the more drawn to it people will be and the more likely they are to buy from you.
-Are you covering your table with a cloth? That makes it more professional looking. Also, if you have "layers" on your table that is helpful too--You can build up your table here and there (with boxes or books, etc) underneath your table covering. That draws the eye up and down and adds interest. Also keeps things on the back of the table from getting lost, because you have elevated them and given them importance too. (It does not have to be real tall--just enought to make a height difference)
-Have some pumpkins, gourds, leaves, etc on your table too since it is Fall-it will give a good feel.
-Before you put your coasters in a basket, tie them together with ribbon. If you have 4 coasters that look the same stacked and tied and then your price tag hanging off of the ribbon, it will look cute.
-For your price tags, use card stock paper (a little heavier than computer paper--used for scrapbooking and available at craft stores and probably Wal-Mart too). You can buy it in different colors--you could use a fall color for this booth since it is Nov. Give your business a name and put it on the price tag too. Cut your price tags with pinking shears or a pair of scrapbook scissors that leave a cute edge. They also make a rotary blade that is ruffly and would be cute-and fast! Stamp something "Fall-ish" or print a clip art onto the tag too. Punch a hole, tie a ribbon through the hole and then pin the ribbon to your item. If you include a web site or email address then people will know how to contact you in case they decide they need to buy more from you in the future. :lol:
-Also print yourself some business cards at the same time you are printing price tags--hand them out and/or include them with the purchase, for future business.

Just a few thoughts..........I wish you tons of luck and just know you are going to do well--you make such gorgeous things :-)

Marcia, all of those points are exactly what I do. I've even suggested to new people to go to some specialty stores and see how they display items. You can get some great ideas.

Karla, please take pics after you get set up. Its good reference for you for the next time, plus I'd be excited to see!!!!!!!!!

Okay--not the busines cards--no way can I add orders to my life. :lol: :shock: I'm also going to be on the look out for the perfect baskets and a table cover. We have tons of gourds. :D :D

I wonder if my computer prints cardstock....

Karla--your printer should not have any trouble with cardstock-it is a little thicker than regular paper, but still very flexible and should print fine. If you can put photo paper through your printer, then cardstock should be no problem for you.

Good luck--I am so excited for you!!!! If you have time, set your table up at home and take pics of it. If you look at the pictures on the computer, then you can see things that might need to be changed (there is just something about looking at a photo that you notice things you do not see in reall life-I try this trick with my quilts too) It will also make your set up go faster the day of the craft sale if you can just look at your pics and know right where you want to put everything!!
