Winter quilt pattern?
Hi there!
I'm a newbie! And I'm working a bit backwards for my next project. I have absolutely fallen in love with a fabric. It's a snowflake batik that I'm obsessed with. I take it to every quilt show so I can match the fabric. I have been slowly building complimentary fabrics. Now I need to find a pattern! Is there such thing as a "winter" quilt pattern? My favorite part of the fabric is the large snowflake stamped on it. So I need a pattern that has a few large pieces I could use that fabric for so I don't cut it up too small and lose the design I love so much. Your thoughts? |
First thing that comes to mind is the Snowball Block. Check out Quilter's Cache for the pattern.

i don't know of a specific winter pattern. however, if you want to focus the stamped snowflake, snowball works as Drew said, but you could also do warm wishes.

Hello and welcome to the board. If you are new to quilting and you want to showcase a specific fabric the easiest thing to me would be to make a simple country quilt. One fabric=one block. The blocks can be any size you want, depending on the size of your snowflake. These type of quilts are quick, you practice consistency of your seams ( blocks need to line up vertically and horizontally), and you get great boost in confidence. Sashing (strips of fabric that go between the blocks) are optional and so are the borders. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Show Me Your Fat Quarters and I'll Show You Mine highlights a favorite fabric and works great for seasonal fabrics.

How big are those snowflakes and what size quilt are you making?

Many of the patterns in the Modern Quilting books now out are perfect for larger prints/designs. City Quilts by Cherri House has some great designs in it.

Here's the fabric: http://www.favoritefabric.com/cgi/co...&key=MDBESFICE and http://www.favoritefabric.com/cgi/co...key=MDBESFPOND The largest snowflake pattern 5 inches. I don't mind a semi-tricky quilt. My first quilt was a bargello, now I'm working on a lattice quilt with partial seams and a chevron pattern quilt. But with cooler weather quickly approaching I can't stop thinking about my dream winter quilt. |
