I am looking at the Montana Cartwheel pattern and wondering if it is the same as the New York Beauty? Sorry in advance if this is a stupid question.

It looks to me that the difference is that the background around the outer ring is split into the corner.
The New York Beauty doesn't usually have this. It is usually a solid piece.
Also, the Montana Cartwheel block has only one arc with spikes, while the New York Beauty can have 2 or more.

Not a stupid question at all. Many patterns start from one and because of coloring and such are named something different. From what I see the Montana and the New York are basically the same except that in some of the blocks there's an inner and outer curve that is split into 2 colorings.

Thanks very much!

WOW...I just googled the pattern because I had never heard of it before. It sure looks intense.

I learned a relatively easy paper piecing method years ago (don't ask me what it is now!), that made the Montana Cartwheel alittle easier - however your avatar (Quilterella) looks pretty intense to me! Beautiful!
