Ok I found another one. It's a Spartan and the person again doesn't know if it works or not. It looks to be in great condition and the ad says the machine is dated 1930's. It says to make an offer and it must be sold quickly. What would you offer for something like this? Sorry I have all these question but you all are like my quilting and sewing library and full of so much great knowledge as I'm just new to this wonderful sewing and quilting world.

Don't know how much, but ask Billy (lostn51)...he knows TONS about the old machines. Send him a PM right away before these get away...I think you'll get a good deal here, but ask him to be sure.

That Spartan is really a good looking machine. Usually all they need is a good cleaning and oiling. I have purchased many many old machines cleaned them up oiled them and have made a lot of money doing that.

Spartan's are a good little workhorse machines. If it runs you would be happy with it.

I'd love to have both machines! They are very fixable if something doesn't work; that's one of the great things about them. The Spartan is in beautiful condition, but the other machine would be fine at $30. I love the knee control; much easier to use, in my opinion, than a foot pedal.

You can always offer less since they aren't sure if the machines run.

If you are in the market for a vintage, I don't see how y9ou could go wrong. Those cabinets seem to be in pretty good shape

If it runs well, the cord is in decent shape and has some attachments it is a good deal. Looks nice and clean. I have several vintage machine. I have heard of Jones before.

Yes, go for the Spartan. It is a 3/4 Singer. Hopefully it has a reverse. I would pick this over the Jones. Or like some one else said,"Get both." LOL that is what I do and now I have many but I am happy.
