WooHoo--first trip to Paducah!!
 

DH and I are headed to Paducah and then on to the KY Bourbon Trail. We are really looking forward to this trip--it's been some time since we took a trip that didn't involve seeing family. I've got some idea of what we plan to do/see each day, we have our reservations for each night, but we are leaving lots of "wander" time. Plan to see the National Quilt Museum and visit (and buy) at Hancocks of Paducah. We are staying at the 1857 Hotel so will be right in the heart of the historical district. Excited!

We just returned from a trip to KY and the quilt museum. It was wonderful. Such creative ideas. Current displays were Japanese quilts and versions of the bow-tie quilt. Wish I lived closer as I may never get back that way. While in KY we went to Noah's Ark.

Adding to the above post I will tell you about a crazy quilt I found in a dusty antiques shop in my city. The stitches were awesome. I had no need for it but couldn't let it pass. Size was more like a table topper. Incorporated in the velvets, silks and laces was a ribbon recognizing the Cynthiana, KY, Orphan Brigade. Knowing nothing about this, when I returned home I googled it. Learning a little fascinating Civil War history. These men wanted to be a part of the war but state of KY did not. Crossing over into TN they were accepted as the "Orphan Brigade. The date on the ribbon was 1868, I believe. Long story but I knew this needed to be in KY. We dropped it off in Cynthiana donating it to their museum.

Sounds like the perfect trip for a husband and wife! We might have to borrow your plan one day!

Save plenty of time for Hancocks. Just when you think you are done they ask if you have stopped by the back room. It was almost overwhelming.

You will Love it. Quilt Museum and Hancock's are great!!! The historical district is awesome with lots of little artisan shops and boutiques. Also, my favorite place to eat is Flamingo Row at 2640 Perkins Creek Dr. It is unique and Great food. Hope you have a blessed time and make lots of memories!

We visited the National Quilt Museum today--DH was ho-hum at first but we were both just blown away by the Japanese quilters exhibit! Soooo many little pieces appliqued on, some about the size of pencil lead! Wow--how do those Japanese quilters have such patience--not to mention hand/eye coordination! It was a great time--we are staying in the 1857 Hotel right in the arts area so able to walk to dinner, bars, quilt museum and tomorrow some shopping at Hancocks of Paducah. My DH is considering taking up me on offer to drop him at MickyDee's close by to the Hancock's for coffee and a chance to read and write while I shop--sure hope so! Then tomorrow afternoon on to Bardstown and the start of the bourbon tour,Lexington, Louisville (and hopefully tours at both Keeneland & Churchill Downs racetracks, Louisville Slugger factory and just a great time for us!)

P.S. forgot to mention the "over the moon" exhibit at the National Quilt Museum--lots of small quilts, about half with pictures and motifs honoring the NASA astronauts and space program and the other half themes with full moons--found 3 that I just loved! Wish you could take pictures!

Well, how was the trip to Hancocks of Paducah? My dear daughter lives in Paducah and we go to Hancocks every time that we go to see her - 5 hours away.
