Wool batting
 

I got some wool batting "by the yard" at a recent Hancock's sale. I have only used warm & natural cotton in the short time I've been quilting. There is no instruction sheet, so just want to confirm that I can use it the same as the cotton - that the quilt is still machine washable. Will the finished quilt crinkle up about the same? I've got a lot of work into this new quilt and do no want to screw it up! Thanks for your advice!

Can you go back to Hancocks to find out which brand? The instructions
might be on the bolt. Find out how far apart you need to quilt and the
washing instructions. It might also give the shrinkage.

Shame on Hancock's for not giving you the instructions/care/info piece that, 99% of the time, comes rolled up in every bolt of batting. Today's wool batting is machine washable, yes. EasyPeezy is right, you need to know the manufacturer to know how far apart to quilt it. They vary...Hobbs wool is 4", Legacy wool is 4" and Quilter's Dream wool is 8".

Hobbs can be washed with no problem on cold. I wash my bed quilt just like the rest of my laundry, in a front loader, on gentle, in cold, and dry slightly on warm, then finish over a drying rack. It has a slight shrinkage, but as my fabrics were not washed first, the "puckered" look is the traditional appeal I was going for.

Thanks, I want the shrinkage. This quilt is for a niece who is starting cancer treatments, so I want it to be special, but not require any special care. I thought that wool would be warm and light. I know about the directions on the bolt, and can't imagine why I don't have them. I will stop down at the store and see what it says. I live close enough to just walk over there - a blessing and a curse:)
