I have been working on a trapunto project. I was using wool batting. I guess it was real wool because when I wet it to dissolve the water soluble thread the whole bathroom smelled like a wet animal. I had used wool batting before, but for wall hangings that never get wet. I felt like a wool farmer.

Oh, my! What brand is it? Hobbs and Quilter's Dream are supposed to be good, but I haven't used them and would be concerned if it is one of these.

wow, i have used wool batting a number of times on bed quilts and never had that problem before...i use the hobbs wool batting, it does not shrink has great loft and ...i have not had any problem with smell. maybe wash it again with baking soda in the water to get rid of any residual odor. what kind is it?

Yes. It's supposed to be like quilting through butter!

Thanks, think I will give it a try!

That is so funny. At least when it dries the smell goes away.

At least wet wool smells better than wet dog!! I love Quilter's Dream Wool, especially for (potential) show pieces...no fold memory!! ;-)
