A Labyrinth in Northcutt's Stonehenge fabrics is the first thing that came to mind. You could use softer colors than the pattern shows. The soft cream/green/light rust in the Stonehenge is lovely.

I would steer away from the pastels and do a beautiful neutrals quilt. Just about any pattern can be awesome done in taupes or neutrals with a bit of lovely green. Mmmmmm!
peace EDIT: Or, how about a wholecloth quilt! |

Also the newest Connecting Threads catalog has a couple of interesting neutral color quilts. http://www.connectingthreads.com/ima...ineCatalog.pdf Check page 14. Jan in VA |
You might try googling "low volume quilts" to get some ideas for neutral/pastel color palettes. Here's one very pretty one:
http://www.freshlemonsquilts.com/?tag=low-volume-quilt Though I am biased -- I love pastels. I think you can get some contrast/interest in varying the shades used and using contrasting colors, even if they're in softer tones. |
Ummm... the point of this quilt - a wedding gift - is to show your regard for the couple, right? In which case, this quilt's importance is the love that's sewn into it. Perhaps the *next* quilt you can do in colors that you find pleasing, but this one should be done with the bridal couple in mind. If the quilt is done in *their* colors, they will cherish it. And that's what makes most quilters happy... the thought that our creations will be enjoyed!
And who knows, if you give this pale color combination your best shot, you may find that you appreciate the delicate beauty of the colors when all is done. Think positive! |
I'm not a big fan of neutrals either, but I've seen some really gorgeous quilts that were done in neutrals.
I recently did a fancy half log cabin pillow in shades of cream and tan with just that single 1/2" square of a dark red in the center (upper corner) of each block. I love it! Not in a hurry to do another one, but that is more because it was 1" strips than because it was neutrals. |

I was asked to make a quilt with purple and lime green. Ouch. But I did it!

I did a quilt for my grandson and his wife, I used the colors they had picked for their bedroom sheets etc. and her favorite color green. I would certainly go with their colors.
