I was bored and sorted out my fabric stash, and see I have a lot of homespuns. I used a lot of it in crafting. I remember seeing a quilt using all homespun, and was wondering how to cut it. Do you press it and make sure it is square before you cut it, or make templates and cut out each indvidual piece? I really like to use my rotary cutter but working with plaids doesn't seem logical! Any hints? :?:

I made a rag quilt out of homespuns that turned out really nicely. It didn't really matter if the plaids squared up or not. I cut mine with a rotary cutter.

I never really care if they come out straight or not. It is really hard to get them straight because sometimes they just aren't printed that way.

Are all homespuns plaids or vice versa? I don't really know what a homespun is.

I have some weird stripes and plaids going on in my latest project. I have all the stripes or plaids going the same direction in each block...but in the 9 blocks they aren't all the same.

Isn't that clear as mud.

It actually makes a quilt more "alive" if you aren't careful about cutting stripes and plaids exactly on the pattern. Roberta Horton wrote a book about creating quilt tops this way, and that's what she advised. Her book included samples of exact-cut patterns and off-cut patterns, and the off-cuts were more pleasing.
