World Quilt Show
I just got back from the World Quilt Show in Manchester, MA. It was great! The quilts are inspiring, and the fabric available is amazing. Bought enough for a couple new projects.

I'm envious!! Did you take pictures???
|
One day I want to attend that show. Glad you had a good time and enjoyed yourself.
|
Yes, I took some pictures. Is it OK to show them here?
|
Thanks for posting this, I might have time to go on Sunday!
|
teehee I think you mean Manchester, New Hampshire?
|
You know, I never know whether I've crossed into MA or I'm still in NH -- lol. I call it being on NH time. I drive 40mph in the 50mph zones and drive the cars behind me crazy.

And because there IS a Manchester in Massachusetts, we wouldn't want folks to get lost looking for the quilt show in the future. Best to be aware of where you are at all times, especially if you're from 'away'. Did you see borntohandquilt's wholecloth entry? I believe she has one in this show. |
Manchester NH (!) is a fine city with a great airport - in case anyone needs to know. I looked at every quilt. There were a few wholecloth entries. I don't know how someone works on a project like that. I need variety. BTW, I guess what confuses me about NH/MA is that I have to go thru the toll both and change from I89 to I93 to I293 -- just seems like I'm changing states, too -- lol.

I just got home from there tonight, too! It's about a 4-5 hr drive for me but I had great company - a friend and fellow quilter!!! I think many of the vendors appreciated that we made the trip (LOL). As always, the quilts were beautiful, one gasp and a wow after another. I took lots of pictures - can they be shared? The hotel/convention center is lovely and easy to access from the interstate; they have a great restaurant on the premisis. AND there were lots of shops to visit along the way. Some 'old' favorites in Montpelier and Bethel VT and Henniker, NH plus a new one (to us) in Claremont, NH.

There is a rule on the board.....when you go to a show, and tell us you did so, you MUST post pictures, LOL!:D

Oh, I just posted a question on whether it's a great show or not. Should have read the posts first. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I live south of Boston and might just make the drive up there! Thanks for the review!

BTW, there is a basement type level of parking under the Radisson. When you go to the main ticket entrance, at least for yesterday, there was a man there who validated parking tickets so that it only cost $5 to park. Now for a picture. I only took a few. I can't find the proper transfer cord, so this is one I took with my phone -- from my camera.

katkat1946, you are making me think that I missed a section, but I was sure I saw it all. Maybe I'm on quilt overload.

I first saw this wedding quilt in the Trinity Valley Quilter's Guild show in Fort Worth TX w-a-y back there, maybe even in 1989 or 1990, even recalling exactly where it was hung in that show. I remember how it knocked everyone's socks off at the time! It's nice to see she is still showing it and entertaining a new generation of quilters.
Thanks for the memory with your photo. Jan in VA |
I was there. I was demoing in one of the booths.

Did you get to see the back of this one? According to a volunteer in another part of the show, there were pictures and written descriptions of the life of the man in the quilt. We couldn't find a lady with a gloved hand but were able to pull back the black screening behind the quilt to expose one quarter of it. I wish I'd been able to see the whole back. I didn't like the setup of the show - part in the main room and the rest in the armory room. I understand that the MQX expo is moving back to Manchester from Providence and given the size of that show, suspect they'll do the same thing. I just found it a bit awkward. |
I did the same as you. I'm glad MQX will be there again as I didn't want to go all the way to RI and didn't get the best vibes about that location anyway. The Radisson does it all very well. As far as the two rooms go, every time I've attended this show it's been this way. Perhaps it gives the vendors more traffic? Lots of vendors sure helps attract attendees and it all helps the organizers to put on a great show like this one. There was even a little overflow of displays into a large meeting room adjacent to the 'second' room. This is where the 'floor tile' quilts were.

Katkat,
I live 1/2 hour from Providence and 1 1/2 hours from Manchester. Every time I go to Providence I get lost and getting to the Radisson was **sew** easy. Trust me, I'll get over the physical arrangements for a great show. :) |
