I saw a janome 6600 yesterday, and am smitten with it. Does anyone have this machine, and what do you think of it? Does $1500 including tabe sound like a good price. Let me know before the shop opens at 10:00 central time. Thanks. Sherry Mcd

That's an excellent price! I paid 1600 for just the machine last week.

This is a seriously awesome machine. I made shopping bags from old jeans and it sewed thru multiple layers of jean fabric with not even a hint of a problem!

I'm looking forward to being able to straight line quilt and free motion quilt with it too.

I bought extra feet and the light tension bobbin case and extra bobbins for mine from http://brubakerssewing.com/ since my local dealer doesn't carry any of these things.

my LQS wants $1850 plus 200 for the table. And I want it Badly!

I paid $1500 for mine w/o table, 5 years ago, and have never had to take it to the shop. Works as well as the day I bought it. I sew and quilt with it everyday. I love my machine.

I got mine on sale 3 wks ago for $1200, no table
absolutely LOVE it

Ditter43 03-27-2010 07:26 AM

I paid about $1400 for mine with the table. I don't use the table because mine is now in a cabinet.....It is a great machine. I have sewn both quilting fabric and upholstery on it and it goes through upholstery like butter!!

By the table, I assume you mean the extension table. Is that correct? Mine was included in the price.

I have had mine about two years now and absolutely love it. I paid about $13-1400.00 I think on sale.

Have used most of the feet which are included.

You cannot use just any bobbin in it. Get some from your dealer and then you can buy them off e-bay especially for your machine in bulk. I keep at least four bobbins filled of the same color at all times. The bobbin winder is a dream to use.

Make sure you get your manual and have at least one lesson from your dealer so you aren't stumbling around with it. That should also be included in the price. A good dealer is a must.

I refer to manual so often that I will need to make copies and put in a notebook before it wears out.

I put my machine on a good surge protector. We have alot of small outages here and I did not want to lose my machine to one.

Remember not to put anything magnetic on or near teh machine including pin holders. Since it is computerized, this could really mess with the machines 'brain'.

Hope you get to buy one.

Wow, that machine comes with everything except a seamstress in the box......lol

sewcrafty 03-27-2010 08:23 AM

Just got it for $1049. w/o the table. Table was $350, I think.

This is a good machine but I'd wait a little while longer and have a look at the new Janome Horizon (throat space 11") that is coming out later this spring. There are already pictures and details on the Internet but no price yet that I can see. It's definately a machine that I want to test drive. You can put queen size quilts through the Janome 6600 but the Horizon will make it a lot easier. It really depends on what you expect or need in a sewing machine.

Excellent price! Snap it up, it's a great deal. My LQS has it for $1,700. I have the 6260 and the Marie Osmond Quilter's Companion (not the fancy one), but I don't think they are as good as the 6600.

Katrine 03-28-2010 01:07 AM

I've had mine almost 3 years and love it, have had no problems whatsoever. It's a great machine for free motion, I've done queen size easily.
The 7700 soon to be available has slightly larger throat space at 11" and also is a free arm which the 6600 isn't, but I won't be changing as I am quite content with the 6600.
I can't comment on price as mine was bought in France - but if you do buy it, get the additional Accufeed feet - you wont regret it.

Please let me clarify, when you said table I actually was thinking about the table at the dealers the machine sat into, not the ext. table that came with it.

b.zang 03-28-2010 07:17 AM

It's hard for me to comment on the price since I think in Canadian dollars, but you will never regret owning that machine. The table is an awesome addition because it's so stable and the machine fits perfectly. If you figure out what the little door by the needle is for, let me know (maybe you can ask when you purchase this set).

I say - GO for it :)

I've got mine in that table too Barbara, and hope someone knows why that little door is there because I can't figure it either!
The table is great like you said, and also the machine is so quiet in it.

I bought my Janome 6600 about 6 weeks ago. I paid almost $1400 and got the last one in stock. It came with the table, but I put mine in a cabinet. I sold my extension table to a friend for $45.00. Sold my Pfaff for $800 so in all my machine cost less than $600.00. I even talked him in to giving me extra bobbins and the acufeed open toe foot.
I really like this machine. Someone suggested you wait untill the next one coming in the spring. I didn't need the extra throat space bc I have the HQ16. All in all everything depends on your time frame, budget and DESIRE. I called all the dealers in my area and this was the best price, plus I had bought from him before.

Ha ha that was cute Chasing Hawk, and it doesn't take up much space!

I thought it was cute. That one is probably the only way I could afford one.

I have the 6600 too, got it a few weeks ago and I love it. I agree about the extra Acufeed feet and also the lower tension bobbin case if you're going to be doing FMQ. Personally I prefer the metal closed foot for FMQ too that you can buy as an extra as it doesn't bounce, there's no arm over the needle screw, you adjust it with it's little wheel so it just skims the fabic. I find my stitches are much nicer and my control much better (I don't even find I have to wear gloves with it)than with the supplied open foot, although that does work fine too. Since I got this machine, my piecing is more accurate and my FMQ has come along in leaps and bounds! Worth every penny and you DON'T want to know what I had to pay for it over here!

I guess if you can wait for the 7700 and find the extra money then it would be worth it but I'm so happy with my 9" throat and all the other features, I don't regret it one bit!
