which would make a better border?

I am working on a crib quilt for my soon to be great nephew and I can't decide on the outer border.. so I thought that I would as what you guys think :)
I am going to use the gray for the small inner border. But I can't decide on the yellow or the gray for the outer border. Any thoughts? |
Yellow looks happy and fun.
I like the yellow. It is a little brighter and looks great.
So cute! I really liked the yellow at first, but when I saw the gray I thought it looked more restful. They both work well so you can hardly go wrong.
I'm not overly fond of the narrow gray border. If you used the gray print for the wider border, maybe you could use a solid yellow for the narrow border. |
I love the yellow, and the grey.LOL I agree, either one will be so cute and pretty.
I like the yellow
I think the yellow is cheerier. Then you could use grey for binding.
I vote for the yellow. It looks more cheerful.
I'm normally all about gray, but I actually like the yellow a bit better.
I think because the yellow strips are a bit thinner in the quilt the yellow border helps highlight them. |
My vote is yellow, but both are pretty.
I like them both but if they are expecting a boy I would go with grey, expecting a girl go with yellow.
i like the yellow
I love them both and think that either will be just right. Where did you buy the fabric? I need to get something with bunnies on it for a baby quilt I need to have made before December.

Yellow needs brightness
Either would work, but I prefer the gray because it seems to frame the center better.
To me, the gray border makes it feel more "finished" than the yellow border. |

Thank you all so much for your replies. I agree that the yellow is brighter - - but then I also agree with Tartan about the gray being a better fit for a boy.
I think I do agree with those of you who questioned the gray inner border...... I think I am now leaning toward this. A narrow yellow inner border with the gray outer. I am not sure that this yellow is the exact yellow to match this fabric - - but I like it better than the gray. And it gives a pop of bright that was needed That is why I love this board.... I love getting everyone's opinion!! |
I don't really like the last picture. All the pop is gone. I liked the dark grey next to the print and then either of the other colors, then bind it in dark grey. The darker really emphasizes the stars in the strips and provides that little bit of pop every quilt needs. The last one is too matchy, matchy.
well I guess I will fall back on the standard decision making protocol ha ha ha ha
Either would look great. Your quilt your way.
Well... I voted yellow border the first time, but I really do like the change up in the inner border to yellow if you want a gray outer border. The double gray border doesn't emphasize the yellow as much, (which really is fine if it's the look you like though!)
I do hope to see the final result either way, it's a super cute print! |
OK, I heard long ago to use the darkest color in your quilt as your border as it acts as a frame to keep the eye in on the quilt. But what I would do if no deciding I would use the yellow on the top and left side and the gray on the right side and bottom borders, then you would have the best of both, LOL but then I hear my own drummer.
Love the Bunnies by the Bay fabrics you have chosen. I have made two quilts using it and have plans for one more. I used a solid soft yellow for the final border with the yellow print for binding. But of your choices, I would use the yellow. Happy bunny quilting. And post a photo of your finish!

Children are always attracted to brighter colors...it helps to stimulate their minds.
Like all the alternatives but love the yellow inner border with the wide grey border. You can’t go wrong no matter what you decide.
The yellow really brings the quilt together.
I like the yellow best.
For a single border I prefer the yellow. But I like the double border better, then would bind again with the yellow. A dark grey binding would be my second choice, matching fabric would be third.
Happens my next project to quilt down/last project finished, has a narrow yellow inner border, a blue/green outer border and then will use the yellow again for the binding. It's quite a bit brighter than your top but I wanted the contrast, plus I bought a bag of fabric at the goodwill that all the fabric came from, and that was what I had the most left. I put a picture of it in this thread: https://www.quiltingboard.com/main-f...ml#post8292041 |

Can't decide. How about both? Maybe narrower.

I like the yellow best.

Yellow seems to show dirt and grime faster than gray. If this is to be a "drag-around" quilt, I would make the border gray and bind in darker gray.
