lay out strips and cut them up, then take the piece off the bottom of the second row and move it to the top and then take the two off the next and move them.....

Do you know what I'm talking about? So that you're strip piecing at an angle?

Thanks if you get it! :)

you can sew your strips all together, into a tube, then cut your strips, take apart between the 1st and last first strip, between 2nd and 1st next, 3rd and 2nd next ect, laying them out side by side as you open each tube.

Thanks, but I've seen it in a book without a tube and I really need pics. I"m just very visual, I guess.

Is this a Bargello quilt? Sounds like it. There is tutes on it from a few people. Search for Barbs Bargello. She has a very good tute going on but it's a little different ( but easier ) than the one where you make tubes.

That's not it; the one I'm thinking of makes squares, like a bargello but without the wavy stuff. But thanks for the link. I have a jelly roll in mind for that one.

I can't find it! I see Danmar's waving bargello but nothing else. I haven't had my coffee yet, but would love to see the one from Barb.

There are many designs that recommend this. It is a way to mix up the fabrics without cutting out each individual piece. Think of it this way. If you are doing a sauare or other simple shape. If you cut a 4" strip of 6 colors
You stack them on top of each other and sub cut the squares.
then take the top from the second group and put it on the bottom, two from the third group and put them on bottom - etc you will have mixed up all the squares for easier piecing.
