Would you buy an '80's model Gammill?
 

There is an '80's model Gammill with 12 foot rack for sale for $1000. Would you pay $1000 for it?

I am assuming it works, but haven't checked it out yet. I will, of course, but I was wondering if $1000 was a fair price for a Gammill that is about 30 years old.

It depends....are the table and machine in good condition? Model #? Anything included with it? Lots of variables to consider.

It's a model DB2-D767-5 Gammill. The table and machine both look to be in good condition in the picture. I haven't looked at it in person yet.

Well, I'm not familiar with that model but make sure that it's operational. You can also call Gammill and see if 1) there are any attachments or updates for it still available(doubtful) and if you ask them nicely (like hint that you may possibly want to trade it in for a new one in the future) they can give you a trade in value.

I had an older gammill machine and it worked except for the presser foot bar was broke. I called Gammill and they had no idea where I could get a replacement part. I'd make sure it was totally functional before buying. they were however very helpful and tried to help they even looked up the older frame plans and sent me a copy.

The LA's keep adding all types of upgrades. If you are looking for something newer I would check out APQS. The prices are bginning to come down. They still are expensive.

I probably would not ... It might be difficult to find a tech that has any hands on knowledge of that machine, since they can't train on one. Parts could be a serious problem.
And if you are new to Long Arm , a stitch regular is a very nice option.

call gammill and ask them what it is worth? Make sure they tell you what to look for! Then ask could it be traded in later on!

Does anyone have a working machine like this? I am just wondering how long a log arm will function??

80's was 30 years ago?? sure don't seem like it. guess that means i'm "older" lol. i would try it out first really well. if you like it, go for it. if you have any doubts, pass.
