I like #1 the best. It looks more softer then the white one. I really like your blocks, great colors. HUGS

I like the first one. Blends in nicer with the colors. The second color makes it a cold quilt

Wow so many people with different ideas that I agree with! I like the first one but I am always afraid to use white because Murphy's Law, meaning the white shows everything! The first one seems warmer and yet the white one is so stark that the other colors pop out. I hope you take a photo to post when your done.

Bataplai 01-23-2013 07:17 AM

My vote would be for #1 as well.

Rose S. 01-23-2013 07:26 AM

I like #2--normally I don't like cool colors, but for some reason love this combination.

quilt queen 01-23-2013 07:29 AM

Tradewinds in on my bucket list. I agree that they are both pretty, but I have to go with cream background, it does make it softer and warmer. Love your choice of colors..they are great!

SouthPStitches 01-23-2013 07:34 AM

#2 gives the block much more pop. The contrast is greater and really showcases the other batiks.

jbj137 01-23-2013 10:02 AM

#1 - the yellow

patdesign 01-23-2013 10:23 AM

For sure it would be number 1, thewhite one looks like a "cop"out.

My vote is for #1. I like the warmth of the cream background. But I suppose it would depend on where it is going.

nannyrick 01-23-2013 11:20 AM

I like them both. (I know, I,m no help at all.)

kele 01-23-2013 11:35 AM

Both are so pretty! I like colors that pop, and the second one really does that.

GrannieAnnie 01-23-2013 12:22 PM

How greenish is the pale yellow? That would be my choice if you don't have a pale green.

QuiltingByCourtney 01-23-2013 12:56 PM

#1 caught my eye.

ube quilting 01-23-2013 02:38 PM

IMHO # 2 has the WOW factor for me. The colors seem more vivid and alive on the cool blue.

The yellow is nice and will also work but IMHO looks flat and pridictabley safe.

This will be wonderful either way but in different ways. Keep us posted with progress!

I vote #1 it blends with the other fabrics.

jaly3162 01-23-2013 04:34 PM

I like no. 1

Should add.....the other fabrics contrast with #2 and your pattern pops up due to this. Both would work based on what you want to accomplish.

I agree!!!!!!!!!!

I agree: # 1. It's warmer. Fabric #2 is cooler and less ....welcoming, somehow.

trolleystation 01-23-2013 05:26 PM

Number 2 for me. Seems that you have touches of blue throughout and this background picks it up.

milikaa1 01-23-2013 07:07 PM

I like the first one, it is more subtle...very complimentary together.

smurfsmom 01-23-2013 09:08 PM

I like them both but #1 is more soothing.

I don't think you can go wrong either way. Both are gorgeous! If warm is what you're going for then number one. If you really want to make the batiks stand out and shine, then number two gets the job done beautifully. :)

I really liked #1 and expected it to be my choice - until like Suzette, I saw #2. Either will be beautiful go with your gut and which looks more pleasing to you.

pegquilter8 01-24-2013 03:57 PM

Oh go for the first one. It's very smashing.

berrypatch 01-24-2013 04:32 PM

Definitely #1 will look fantastic !

That's what I was going to say. :)

I just want to add an aside that surfaced through this thread. It seems that matching colors has become a very
important part of the creativity in quilting.

Now how many people out there are affraid of picking fabrics?
How many of you picked the yellow background?

When I looked at this very nice quilt the first thing that absorbed me was the feeling of the quilt, not the color.

The yellow feels warm and safe and cozy.

The blue feels like a spring breeze and kites and fresh air.

I think we should try once and a while to feel rather than look at quilts. It makes a huge difference in what we want to accomplish.

I think alot of the language we use comes from fabric shops and advertisements which wants us to 'match' everything and it stifles our creativity and our confidence in our own views and choices.

Just wanted to speak to what I noticed in this thread. I love your quilt and am anxious to see it completed.
peace
