I am ready to put together my quilt top and batting. Unfortunately, my quilt top has been folded and laying around for a while, causing it to become quite wrinkled. What should I do to get it prepared?

When I press it should I use steam or dry iron? Would spray starch help?

I would like to avoid that obvious overpressed look where all the seams are imprinted on the quilt top, so any advice from you would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your help.

I use either one..steam or starch. The steam relaxes the material which can be very helpful. If it was previously starched and ironed a light misting would do fine, and then gently press. Can't wait to see it! :D

I would press it... no starch. You could dry press and then spritz any stubborn creases with water if necessary.

I'd lay it flat, spray it as lightly as possible with water to get most of the wrinkles out. Then wet down any spots that aren't cooperating more heavily with water. Blot up the excess water with a towel and let it air dry.

If a few of the wrinkles STILL don't come out, then re-spray just those areas with water and steam press with a press cloth on top and a bath towel underneath until the wrinkles are gone, then dry press until all the water is gone or air dry. Both the press cloth and the towel underneath should help prevent the ironed-look with seams showing through on the top.

newsletterbot, have you mabe thought about throwing it in the dryer for a while. the heat should let the wrinkles go. if their really stubburn wrinkles try putting a damp wash cloth in with your quilt top. i've tried that once and to my surprise it worked.
