X-rated meandering...Good Grief!

So I had made a small lap quilt for my mother for Xmas and I thought this might be a good piece to try quilting myself. I did SID around the blocks and then decided to meander around the border. How hard can it be? I've watched friends do it lots of times. I thought it was going pretty well until my daughter ( she's 21) pointed out that some of the meandering looked like anatomically correct male parts! OMG! I am currently tearing it out and tomorrow taking it to an experienced friend to finish (very kind of her) I need to think of an excuse... honestly meandering looked so easy. I believe I will start to practice on paper! Blushing....

I have held up many a quilts at our guild for show and tell and for speakers. I have seen some of those designs. I suppose one can see many things in meandering but I sure wouldn't worry about it. Add some more stitches.

Charming 12-13-2012 08:13 PM

Rofl.....hahahahaha....lolollol thanks for the good laugh. It is actually hard only the first couple of times after I practiced now I feel I am an expert stippler/meander-ler (I made my own words) whatever but you will be fine believe me and those kids see things we don't so we need them always by our sides...
Good luck

Don't unsew that baby...just sew some stitches over those spots the other direction. The quilt police don't really care if your seams cross over each other: that' s what I heard them while the judging went on. Y ou may a have a new, unique and wonderful design. Tell the daughter to go scrub the floors.

Have you thought that your mother may had had a good laugh if she saw them. I went with a friend who is very good at free motion. I was doing straight lines show was meandering, room was a very quiet buzz of machine, when suddenly the room was shattered by her shouting " I did a duck" . This was a quilt for a soldier.

hopetoquilt 12-14-2012 03:04 AM

I got a stencil that is meandering and will practice from that.

I'm sure I will think of this all day and just laugh! I haven't even tried FMQ yet....don't make body parts...LOL

tjk829 12-14-2012 05:53 AM

My mother would have it hilarious AND pointed it out to every person that ever saw the quilt. My big mouth daughter told my sister " Hey Aunt Terry, guess what Mom put n Grandma's quilt" I understand why some species eat their young! I am never going to live this down....never.

dunster 12-14-2012 06:42 AM

Sounds to me like it's all in your daughter's mind, LOL. Thanks for the good laugh.

Lori S 12-14-2012 06:51 AM

I laughed and laughed when I read your post. Now that its been pointed out , I doubt I would be able to see anything but the "unique" quilted stitches.

Maggiem 12-14-2012 06:51 AM

I blush to say it, but this happened on one of my practice pieces. Thank goodness it was ONLY a practice piece... I now am really good at loopy-loops with leaves!

KwiltyKahy 12-14-2012 06:51 AM

ROFL, I've been tempted to imitate those species too. Thanks for the laugh today.

Yep, I've done this. I always just hope it'll shrink up in the dryer.

Wait. That sounds wrong.

Central Ohio Quilter 12-14-2012 09:11 AM

Oh MAN! Now every time I see meandering on a quilt, guess what I will be looking for! Arggggghhhhh!

Bwaa haa haa haaa!!! That's too funny!

I'm the kind of girl that would be highly entertained if such a thing accidentally showed up in one of my quilts. I'd probably give it to my mother and see how long it would take her to notice it. :D

EllieGirl 12-14-2012 10:27 AM

I have thought the very same thing! I even try changing the directions and lines!

tjk829 12-14-2012 12:06 PM

If it had only been a "random" hidden one or two, I would have them it alone, but it seemed like they were everywhere and I couldn't see anything else, once my DD pointed it out. Really glad to see I'm not alone....and you're right no matter how you say it, it sounds wrong! It has made me laugh though....

fayzer 12-14-2012 12:20 PM

You made me laugh today. I guess it is kind of like looking at clouds. Different people see different things.

#1piecemaker 12-14-2012 01:11 PM

I have a friend that makes at least one of those on purpose and hides it somewhere inside her quillting as a signature. You have to really look for it, but believe me, she has one there. So, some people do it on purpose. Don't feel bad. My meandering isn't perfect but you've got to keep trying. Don't give up!! Get back on the horse.

Now I've spit coffee all over the keyboard twice!

Mahalo for the laughs.

One more thing to worry about when trying to learn FMQ !! I had a good laugh and it made my day....Thanks for sharing.

sewingsuz 12-14-2012 04:41 PM

Kids are seeing things like this or making something of something you say. There minds are down there in the dump. It must have something to do with their hormones. My grandson is 14 and he is always doing this. When I start doing my stippling I will be watching and laughing.

sew_Tracy 12-14-2012 04:44 PM

Hilarious! You have made my day so much better!

tjk829 12-14-2012 04:59 PM

No pictures...Not a chance...I won't live this down for a long time the way it is!:o

cbpirate 12-14-2012 06:55 PM

don't need pictures, what you see in your mind is enough!!!!!!!!!

normasews 12-14-2012 07:17 PM

Too funny! Can't stop laughing. Thank you for sharing.

Okay....you've got to stop this....the first post was funny enough. Then I read up to this part of your post......sides hurting from laughing so much....husband asking whats so funny about quilting....still laughing!!!!

KatFish 12-14-2012 09:06 PM

Okay the first time I did it that I didn't mean to. Then my ex asked me to make him a quilt. I quilted body parts all over that thing. Nobody but me has noticed them. If the back print is very busy, no one will notice. I still get warm fuzzys everytime I think about that quilt.

b.zang 12-14-2012 09:38 PM

Can this be prevented by keeping the mind from wandering when meandering?

kitsykeel 12-14-2012 09:41 PM

Maybe some loopy-loops with FIG LEAVES would cover up the body parts.

HEHE...I needed that laugh!!..but on the serious side I have a friend in mind I would love to do this for--her Over the Hill birthday!! Only handquilted so far, but may have to learn FMQ!!

JustAbitCrazy 12-14-2012 10:24 PM

:D This entire thread is hysterically funny! Thanks, you guys! You all have great senses of humor! Hmmm... Now I'm wondering if I've ever meandered a body part...

tkee 12-15-2012 04:46 AM

This thread just started my day with a laugh and a stupid grin. I barely managed not to spit out my morning Diet Dr. Pepper. The meandering itself is funny, then the shrinkage comment, and then the quilt for the ex and other comments. I never thought about covert designs. It gives me a whole new perspective.

sewmom 12-15-2012 04:50 AM

Been there-done that- did NOT pick it out! Most people would not even notice- especially after washing!

ghquilter53 12-15-2012 05:12 AM

So funny. I may never meander again.

Got a good belly-laugh out of this one. Agree!
