I took my mom to the fair last night, with the intention of looking at sewing machines. She was scared of going with a computerized model, but the saleslady was awesome at making it so easy for my mom. My mom's eyesight is not what it used to be, but she'd like to try making doll clothes and dolly quilts for the granddaughters, so she tried one out and decided she could do it! She was going to take time to think on it, but as she chatted with the saleslady about my mom's first childhood machine, she just felt like it was right for her.
My mom was a little freaked out by how much it cost, but she got over it! ;) This is the same momma who financed a long arm and frame for my sister-in-law and me, without batting an eye! She just has a hard time spending money on herself! I'm doing my best to help her get over that :-D So, in the family, this is our 5th machine this year, all from the same LQS. When we get into something, we all jump on the bandwagon! And, we REALLY love our LQS! When we got home, she was so excited and finally had to call my sister in law to tell her all about it. Now she's just got to wait til next week to pick it up at the LQS and to get her lesson. The wait will be torture! :P |

What a great story. Love that the whole family is sewing. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, great story. I think we all can feel her joy and trepidation. These new fangled things can be so intimidating ... until you get them home and start to play!
So what did she get, and when do we get to see them? |
Love your story!!
And my Mom is the same way- spends money on everyone but her! |
Wonderful story

I bet they really love you too! |
It's a Janome 3160. It has the thread cutter button, so my mom joked that she spent an extra $400 so she won't have to pick up a pair of scissors! She is Soooooo excited, she can hardly wait to call and find out when she can come in to pick it up.
Here's the machine on Janome's website. http://content.janome.com/index.cfm/...ilting/3160QDC |

I brought my camera to the store tonight, but I forgot to pull it out because while Mom was getting her lesson, I was doing more shopping! So, here's pictures after we got home. She's pretty excited, although too tired tonight to start anything other than test a few stitches. I had to test it some too. It purred like a kitten and sewed like a dream!

Mom passed away 4 weeks ago after struggling through 2 1/2 months in hospitals. My Sis-in-law and I are well equipped with machines so mom had said for my sister to get her new machine. Yay for my sis! She is now part of the Janome family.
Today is one of those days when I miss my mom so bad..... |

Today is one of those days when I miss my mom so bad..... I am 62 years old - my mother passed eleven years ago. The other day, I picked up the phone to call her to ask her a question. Forgot I had to ask her the heaven-way! We will always be our mother's daoughters. |
Christine, so very sorry for your loss. You have some wonderful memories of your Mom and it's obvious she enjoyed her life. So happy appearing in the photos. Time does help some, but the hole in your heart never quite mends. Hugs and prayers to you and your family.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My sympathy to you and your family. She looks so happy with her new machine and I hope it brought her and all of you joy during her last months. Hugs.

I'm so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. My thoughts are with you and your family.

I'm so sorry for your loss. My mom went to heaven 13 years ago and there are times that I still miss my best friend.
I'm glad that she splurged and enjoyed her new sewing machine! And now you have some wonderful pictures of your mom to cherish. May your sister enjoy her new machine. I'm sure that your mom is smiling down that she sees all of you sharing in her love of sewing. ((((Hugs)))) |
So sorry to hear about the loss of your mother. She did appear to love her new machine, and it was nice that you were able to learn and enjoy sewing with your mother for so many years. She is still sewing with you, all you have to do is close your eyes from time to time and listen.
|
So sorry for your loss. She looks and sounds like a wonderful friend. I'm glad she was able to enjoy her machine. My Mom has been gone for 5 years and I miss her every day. We always miss our Mom's. We both enjoyed sewing although not so much in her case for the last few years, but she enjoyed the things I made right to the end.

What a special day for both of you. My Mother passed away 8 years ago and I still miss her.
