After reading all the input, I find your idea/suggestion is the best all around; no tear out/redo and the red would work to pop out the shades in the border print that do match the tone in the blocks. I would quilt the border in 'piano keys' to break the floral and connect geometrically with the main portion. No, it may not be what you imagined but that does not mean it does not work! Quilts, like life, do not always turn out as planned and end up -----
better!

.

I agree also! The colors are correct. You have some of the same scale fabrics in the body of the quilt, another go! Choose the red will bring it all together. What a wonderful retirement gift, from the heart.

I would choose the dark green for the border. But I just love the colors in the quilt top. Great job

I like it, but I think I would cut the border down to be the width of the smaller rectangles in the pattern. Then maybe even add some of the green fabric as a third border.

Lots of opinions here. If it doesn't jive with you then change it. Your opinion is the only one that counts.

I love it!!! Use a nice standout (like the orange or dark brown) color for the binding and brown thread for quilting and you will have done a super job!!!

I think it looks just fine.........just my humble opinion.....

fmhall2 11-26-2013 08:04 AM

Why not audition a dark solid green? I think a solid green next to the thin orange would look fine, but I agree it is too busy.

I think it looks pretty good....the orange inner border sets the center apart from the border. I suppose size will have something to do with it? Also, depending what you plan to use for the back and binding will make a difference. Have you planned for those and if so, will you share?

klgls 11-26-2013 10:29 AM

IMHO I like it as is. I would maybe bind it with the narrow orange border color.

IngeMK 11-26-2013 10:37 AM

Well I ended up taking the border off, just did not like it. It will end up on the back somehow.
I had enough of the orangey floral to come uo with a more narrow border, so that.s what I did. I will post pics when I am done

Looks good to me the way it is....

I agree with you. Maybe a green border - a color that matches or compliments the green in the quilt .
love the colors of the piecing work.

I chose the border for it first, and now I am considering taking it off. what do you think? Something just does not jive here ,

I like most of the quilts I have seen called Yellow Brick Road, none none of them have been yellow. This one does have the "brick" look, but for the life of me I cannot figure out the pattern. It appears to be an easy one, but to hard for me for some reason.

Maybe someone will be kind enough to tell me what the piecing principle is?

I think I would do a green border to match or simular to the green in the quilt. Pretty quilt.

Here's the finished quilt :)

I agree. I am not crazy about the boarder.
I am wondering if your darkest colour would make your quilt pop more.

My 2 cents: The border seems too feminine for a male. A darker color green or brown (solid) would pull it together nicely. But if you want to use that fabric, I suggest you make it narrower then add the darker color as a final border

This is great!! Now it 'feels' finished.
