Yellow and Gray Fabric

I was at a quilting retreat this weekend and a couple of the gals were working on gray and yellow quilts. Yellow is my favorite color and I used to work with gray quite a bit and still have several gray fat quarters. Does anyone know of any current fabric lines that use gray and yellow that I could use as my focal fabrics?

Joann's has a yellow and gray line in their more expensive quilting fabric line.

It appears that gray is the new black .... or something like that! Seems like everything I see now is or has gray in it. Some I like, some I don't. I would think you might be able to find a gray and yellow in any fabric store now .... unless gray is already on the "outs" and a new color has taken over. You know, I just cannot keep up with all the new trends. Yep, I am not very trendy for sure.

PS: I just typed "yellow gray fabric" into ebay and you wouldn't believe the number of hits I got. I may have to rethink using those colors ..... or not!

What goes around comes around! In the late seventies, it was gray with rust.

Last fall I picked up a couple of pieces of some really pretty grey and Yellow fabrics. This line is from Bernatex "What's the Buzz..." There was a cute one with bee, the one I have is a pretty grey with yellow and white flowers Daisy Buzz - c 5241 and another stipe STYX-C 5244
Hope you can find what you need!

Riley Blake fabric has yellows and grays. Lots of cute prints. Probably could get it at a LQS. Otherwise online, maybe Amazon? I'm working on my 2nd baby quilt this year where gray was requested. It's the new neutral I guess.

I'm still stuck on lime green...not ready to move on yet!

I picked up an amazing floral/paisley at JoAnns before Christmas...it was gray background with yellow, white and peach flowers...black accents/swirls/paisley.....it may sound yuk but it was so pretty. My aunt's kitchen is "peach" so this was the focus fabric for the placemats, runner and pot holders. She loved it.

Timeless Treasure has a fabric line called TAXI by Alice Kennedy. LOVED the free pattern that came out with the fabric line. I am doing it in Red and Black.

I am making a quilt using the yellow, black, grey and white color combination. Here is a block I've made with it.

I'm using a lot a grey because it goes with everything. Last month I went into my LQS and bought 3 full bolts of light and medium grey (hope no one else wanted those colours that week because that was all the shop had).

Two 40% discount vouchers on purchases on what was left on bolts was an added incentive. :) The bolts were untouched so they were real bargains.

I was just looking at the Hancocks of Paducah catalog and there's a nice line of fabric that goes with gray and yellow. It's High Street for Moda, by Lily Ashford.

GailG 03-03-2014 05:24 PM

Skratchie, that's a beautiful combination -- and a really pretty block!

Connecting threads has a few. And their fabric is inexpensive.http://www.connectingthreads.com/fab...L60020404.html

I love the yellow and grey combination and have at least one fabric with it. But I wonder, in 20 years will someone look at a yellow/grey quilt and say, oh, that one's from 2014? (I wouldn't care if that happened, just wondering...)

zennia 03-04-2014 01:29 AM

www.quiltshops.com has several.

I like the Spring Terrace by Jenni Calo, I'd love to do a quilt for my room out of it! Wish I had more shopping store closer to me.

Michael Miller also has some nice grey & yellow fabrics - they lean toward contemporary in style.

RedGarnet222 03-04-2014 06:30 AM

The red rooster fabrics site had a free quilt pattern using their grey and yellow geometrics fabrics.

Our local quilt shop has gotten in a line of grey and light turquoise - really pretty. It goes with their with Audrey Hepburn panels, but is interesting on its own. Don't know the manufacturer, though.

Just got an email ad from Riley Blake and seems I noticed yellow and grey collection there. Right now I'm working on a grey, yellow and aqua baby quilt so yellow and grey must be the "IN" colors this year as I've been seeing a lot of this combo recently.

I just received an email that Andover Fabrics is coming out with a new line of yellow and grey with a touch of black called Modern Folkloric Collection. Looks great!

michelleoc 03-04-2014 08:31 AM

I recently made a yellow, gray and white baby quilt. The colors looked really nice together. But, whoever said it is probably right, in years we'll look back and say, "Oh, I remember when those colors went together, back in 2014." That being said, because it does seem to be the latest trend, I have seen a lot of BEAUTIFUL gray fabrics.

klgls 03-04-2014 09:24 AM

I, too, have been asked to make a gray/yellow baby chevron quilt. I found some great fabrics at Joanns. Between grays and chevrons, this baby will be quite in style. :)

I bought the lilliana fabric in two color sets, one was the gray and yellow and the other was gray and light blues..

nme1974 03-05-2014 04:45 AM

I think gray, or I've also heard it called steel, is really in right now. And with yellow, it's a great match.

Red rooster also has a fabric line Modern Noir that is predominantly grey, yellow and black. Not a new line so not sure of its availability - I bought it on line.

Thanks! I made the second block last night and i'm not as crazy about it but I think in the whole quilt it will look fine. It's a block of pinwheels and one of them didn't turn out so hot but the rest look find. I think it's the issue of so many seams in such a little space ...

peabee 03-07-2014 02:34 PM

timeless treasures eclipse-really nice!

mjhaess 03-09-2014 06:02 AM

The last gray and yellow I bough was from Hancocks...

Havplenty 03-09-2014 06:47 AM

I doubt it. some of the colors/fabric pattern combos we use today may not be in vogue 20 years from now especially all of the modern fabric prints and colors. But who will really care. Hopefully these quilts will be well loved and worn that anyone who looks at it will know it was a favorite in its time.
