Yo-yo attachment: Machine sew or hand sew?

1 Attachment(s)
Hello everyone,

I'm working on my first yo-yo quilt project and I am finally within 8 yo-yos of completing the task of making the yo-yos. I am planning on using Kona white 5" blocks for the setting of each yo-yo. I have a couple questions for your experienced minds. 1. Would you machine sew or hand sew the yo-yos down? 2. Do you have any tips for quilting yo-yo quilts?

Thank you for your thoughts,

Anna

It depends on what you are comfortable doing. I am working on a Yo-yo quilt for myself and I plan to hand stitch them on.

I usually hand sew my yo-yos on to the background that I have already quilted.

I'd hand sew too after the top is quilted. Your quilt is so pretty - love the different blues.

That's what I would do too. Looks lovely.

I like your colours and placement :) Yes I agree - would do the same as mentioned by Doggramma and earthwalker.

Thank you all for your replies. I think I will follow your suggestions and mark the center of each white block then build the quilt and attach the yo-yos last. Sitting here looking at the picture I think it would be pretty to use a few different white on white patterns for the blocks for the top. Hmmmm so many decisions. Thank you all again! (This was my first post. :) How fun!

Yes, Clover has those templates...come in several sizes...the easiest way to make yoyo's. I know, am making them now.

Did you try, as an experiment, to zigzag around the edges with invisible thread...tiny zig, long stitch? I have a pattern from an older mag that has theses sewn onto strips of fabric rather than squares and you show...that is my goal----someday----- now just have a growing box of yoyos......
