I am making a quilt that has yo yo's sewed on the border. And I am wondering how I sew them on. I know by hand. But would I sew them on like a button or do you sew around the whole yo yo. I haven't gotten to there yet but just happened to think of it.

I just did a quilt with yo-yo's attached to it. I sewed all around each one.

You can also stitch a circle about 1/3 of the way away from the center if the yo's are large and you are concerned with them being tugged on during use--makes an interesting variation. I am currently making an Amy Butler Quilt that uses some GIANT yo-yo's 8-12" across so I plan to use the method above and then stick a smaller yo-yo on top to cover the stitching, but only on some--i think variety is the spice of life--or something like that!

You don't say how large they are going to be but if they are large enough i would machine stitch it to the quilt before closing it up. Difficult to explain but I will try:

Whatever size your yo-yo is going to finish up, as an example, 2" make up your 5" fabric circle and stitch around the running stitches, easy to do with a Quick Clover yo-yo maker, then BEFORE pulling the thread closed draw a circle, 2" in diameter in the centre and machine sew around that circle thro' the yo-yo and the quilt, you then pull the thread closed, that yo-yo will never come off and they come out so beautifully uniform.

I invisibly stitch around the edge--and you can put a cute button in the center!

I am going to buy a clover Yo Yo maker I am making the Granns Star quilt and I need it to make the border trim.I have never done any like this before. Thanks to all for your advice.

I would just sew around the edge.

Thank you for this suggestion I will give it a try when I get to that point.It sound like they will turn out very nice especially the little bigger ones.
