Good idea to go around the table legs. I wonder if mattress bed sheet garters would work the same way?

Great idea!! You solved my problem too! My table isn't old but the top is too thick for the clips.

I think they would work just as well after adding longer lengths of elastic. I just found a bunch of them in a drawer I was cleaning out and now I know why I was saving them.
