You know you've got it bad when ...

You know you've got it bad when you are in the doctor's office, you glance at the floor, and immediately a quilt pattern pops in your mind! (Square in square) Have you had this happen to you?

QuiltnNan 11-11-2011 11:22 AM

quite frequently :) at least it took your mind off your dr. visit for a moment :)

LivelyLady 11-11-2011 11:29 AM

More often than not

SueDor 11-11-2011 11:57 AM

Yup!!!!!!!!!!!

QuiltingJaguar 11-11-2011 12:01 PM

I was in an elevator and the man in front of me had the neatest shirt on, I swear if I had scissors on me would have cut the back out for a quilt that came to my mind. (Does anyone know if they have sewing machines in jail)???

Camping Angel 11-11-2011 12:30 PM

I carry small pieces of graph paper with me so I can sketch my designs as they come to me.

Lady Crafter 11-11-2011 12:53 PM

You've got it bad!! (and so do I)

ann31039 11-11-2011 01:33 PM

Yep. I took a pic of the tile in the bathroom at work. Would make a great block

mosquitosewgirl 11-11-2011 01:57 PM

Pinkiris 11-11-2011 02:29 PM

Bonnie Hunt of Quiltville often posts pictures on her blog of patterns that she sees while on her world travels. Interesting tiles and brick patterns out there. Take inspiration wherever you can get it.

Braiding on a scarecrow's hat!

jljack 11-11-2011 03:12 PM

Hahaha!! One time my family and I were checking into a hotel, and I went..."(GASP!) Look at that pattern...what a wonderful quilt that would make!" pointing to the floor in entry of hotel. My DD went.."MOM!!" and turned bright red!! LOL It was very funny!!

quiltinghere 11-11-2011 03:40 PM

I think that is funny that quilters see the patterns people think are just decorations.

guntherquilter 11-11-2011 05:11 PM

Too funny! I work in a neurosurgery clinic. We go to another location on Wednesdays to see patients. They have new
carpet in the hall way. Square in a square!!! (Ugly colors though! Obviously not picked out by a quilter!!!)

sueisallaboutquilts 11-11-2011 05:12 PM

All the time lol

JUNEC 11-11-2011 05:58 PM

Yes, I was on a cruise a couple of years ago - the tile pattern in the casino was beautiful - took photos of it - when it was closed - allergic to the smoke

Cheshirecatquilter 11-11-2011 06:30 PM

I feel sorry for people who don't look around them and find ideas and inspiration in their every day world. Try it. It helps keep the mind active.

CorgiNole 11-11-2011 06:31 PM

Yep - bathroom tiles, hotel hallways/lobbies, ancient mosaics... I think it is an illness. But a happy one.

Cheers, K

masimmons 11-11-2011 06:33 PM

yes it happens all of the time. Last night, my quilting friend and I were going to a diabetic fair. . .and of course we saw new quilt blocks and between the two of us, we drew up several new quilt block ideas. . .we are getting together tomorrow to begin cutting out the blocks.

JOMARIE 11-11-2011 06:56 PM

You betcha

Val in IN 11-11-2011 07:11 PM

All the time. Floors, windows, carpets, you name it. I see quilt blocks in almost any decorative design. I'm going to reserve my room at the funny farm soon.

alikat110 11-11-2011 07:12 PM

Frequently...most especially in Mexican food restaraunts

Chicca 11-11-2011 07:21 PM

While watching the movie "Dungeons and Dragons" tonight...there is a scene with the princess in a spectacular round meeting room....the floor design is fabulous. I had to stop the movie and take a second look and began trying to figure out how to make it into a quilt.

amandasgramma 11-11-2011 07:37 PM

..........or when you walk into a hotel and notice the flooring has an awesome design for quilting :) :) :)

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone! LOL When you reserve your room at the funny farm, you may as well reserve a whole block of rooms for the rest of us! But hey, it should be fun there ... think of all the time we'd have to ... QUILT! :)

ontheriver 11-11-2011 09:53 PM

All the time, that's why i carry a camera in my purse, so I can take pics of everything that inspires me.

BETTY62 11-11-2011 10:08 PM

In a restruant while waiting on the food to arrive.

trif 11-11-2011 10:55 PM

Maybe all the floor designers, tile designers and marble makers all get their inspiration from quilters, that's why we see patterns and ideas everywhere we go, they got them from us.....lol

walkswithwolves 11-11-2011 11:17 PM

You mean to tell me I am not the only that does this. Sitting in my bathriim and looking down at floor, yep a great quilt disign. lol

LOL I have done that so much since being on the Quilting Board. It's not just offices though it's everywhere clouds, colors, pictures. I'm seeing patterns everywhere.

Quiltinggma-nc 11-12-2011 11:09 AM

I has also happened to me. Went to a new dentist's office and saw quilt patterns in the furniture in the waiting are. One I really like was a Dresden Plate.

deedum 11-12-2011 11:15 AM

Went with my DH to the doc yesterday, in the entry of the clinic was actual sections of quilt pieces in a glass frame on the wall as art work, I couldn't hardly get passed the entry way!!! I was holding up traffic! Still didn't get to see it all.

Yep, my iPhone goes with me wherever I go. The largest medical clinic in the town that I live in has actual quilts all over the halls and in alot of the doctors' offices. My eye doctor always asks me what my current project is when I go to see him. (which I do frequently, because he treats me for episcleritis.)

SandScraps 11-14-2011 07:54 AM

Absolutely! And then you start looking at the other patients to see which part of their clothing you could chop up and how you could incorporate drapes, nurses' uniforms and what have you. Makes the time fly - even if you look like the village idiot sitting there with the huge grin on your face and that far-away look in the eye. Little do they know!

hperttula123 11-14-2011 08:21 AM

lol.....all the time. My daughter was playing a game on the computer and she was designing the tile floor. I drew the design out for a quilt with the same colors she used.

I've wondered about the sewing machines in jail myself. (not that I was contemplating anything illegal, mind you!):p

sewN'sew 11-14-2011 08:26 AM

What a good idea! I'm going to cutt up some graph paper right now and put it in a purse pocket.

Buzzy Bee 11-14-2011 08:47 AM

I am so glad to know I am not alone in this big quilting world....LOL.....everything I look at,become a quilt pattern....when I first started quilting, I used napkins, scrape pieces of paper, begged strangers for pens, pencils, paper, anything,,,,anything,,,,,to get that design ....now I use my smart phone camera.....but sometimes I feel like my brain will explode because all these designs are overlapping each other,,and I can't sort just one out....help....my brain needs a rest.....please tell me I'm not the only one that their brain works "all jumbled up" all the time...LOL...
