Would be fun to have ornaments on the tree from all over the world.

Right now I'm working with a group of ladies from our surrounding communities making large Christmas stockings for our troops overseas. Many of the young people that join the service have been in foster care--turned out at 18 with maybe not so many options. The service can be lonely with no family to get packages from. So, am I making ornaments? Not exactly but rather decorations from and for the heart for Christmas. We just make them then take them to another group to be stuffed with candy, soup, gum, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc., and shipped. We aren't the only ones, this is being done in several places.

very nice, you know that just gave me an idea, all of us quilting board members needs to make some Christmas decorations and ornaments and take to the local nursing homes!

Wouldn't that be great! Last year I dropped off some clothes, shoes etc. to them and they were so happy. The office manager at the nursing home sent me a thank you note and said they wished more people would think about the ones in the nursing homes. She said she also wrapped some of the gifts up for them.

We could also make some walker bags, small purse to keep kleenex and candy in for them, small lap quilts, lap quilts, etc.

Lots of ideas!

I am getting ready to take my sewing machines and go to our local daycare and teach some afterschool kids how to sew we are going to make quilted christmas stockings everyone gets to make two one for home and one for one of our local Christmas Tree Angels They get to learn to sew and to help other kids at the same time This will be our third year

When my late DH was in the nursing home for 3 years, I would catch sales of large teddy bears and baby sized dolls. I'd dress the dolls like babies and wrap them in a receiving blanket, then take them all to the nursing home. I'd noticed some old ladies rocking a rolled blanket as babies. So after getting permission,
I'd take the dolls to each lady pointed out to me. One of them snatched the baby and started rocking it, and when I reached down to pull back the blanket to show her the doll's face, she started screaming that I was trying to kidnap her baby. The nurse said that when young the old lady's own baby had been kidnapped briefly, and now her mind was still in that time frame.
Older men too, enjoy the cuddly teddy bears.

Emergency Rooms in hospitals also are a good place for these, since lots of old folks are sent there and just sit..and sit..and sit. If they had something soft to cuddle it would make the time pass faster for them. As long time hospital volunteers, my sister and I firmly believe in giving to those who no longer can tell anyone what they want.

I saw a tutorial on here that I wanted to try... our LQS also has quilts for cathedral window ornaments that I figured would probably be pretty easy to figure out. They had one for the Ohio Star last year that was super easy to do! SO many projects, so little time! I know I need to get at least two made for an ornament exchange between me and my sisters.

I dont make em. dont know how.
