Depends on what I'm sewing and how long the seam is, etc. Unless I'm using a walking foot I pin for connections, over other seams and definitely for matching.
|
I try to pin as little as possible. But I do pin, when matching the seams on diamonds. Other than that, no pinning going on.

Question for AMMA - what do you use the Elmer's glue for?
|
I very rarely pin. The only time I do is when there is a matching or easing problem.

When I began sewing garments, I pinned everything. After a 4 month stint in a sewing factory, I could sew plaid pants, matching patterns, without pins!
Basically, I pin if I think something needs to be precisely matched. If there are seams that butt together (like 4-patches, etc.), I don't pin. For borders, I fold the top and border into quarters and pin at those points, which gives me room to ease the fabric. If I'm putting sashing on a block, I don't pin, but if I'm putting sashing on a row of blocks, I treat it the same way I do the border -- fold it in quarters and pin. I don't pin when I'm chain piecing or when I'm putting sashing on individual blocks. And I always pin curves. Elizabeth |
I pin most of the time unless it is a really small piece I was just taught that way back in the caveman days. LOL
|
I am a compulsive pinner. I have had people tell me I pin too much, but I always find that I am happier with the results. My corners line up, my points match and I find that I have fewer mistakes... It make take a bit more time, but I find that I have a lot less unsewing to do :)

am still pinning, but also glueing. moving over to glueing more and pinning less. it was hard to find that elmer's washable glue around here.

Absolutely.......rather pin ':D' now
than be sorry later '' . MJ in NJ :D |
THANKS EVERYONE! I THOUGHT MAYBE I WAS BEING TOO ANAL. (OOPS! CAN I SAY THAT?) I HATE IT WHEN MY BLOCK LINES AND POINTS DON'T KISS. SO I GUESS I'LL PIN AWAY UNTIL I'M MORE COMFORTABLE WITH MY ABILITIES.
