Don't use it. Google for a panel or cotton flag

My husband is a retired (higher up) Military Officer. I showed him the post and he said not to use it. Sewing on it in any way takes the "official" away from it. Hope that the info will help you decide.

I'm with the poster who directed you to http://www.fotosonfabric.com/ I just finished working with the owner on a printed panel for a quilt a group of us are making a quilt for a Leukemia fundraiser. I told her what I wanted and she printed it up fast and beautifully. The quilt is not finished yet, but the center panel is a beautiful and solid start. Stick with cotton for a bed quilt. You don't want to ruin the flag by experimenting

at one time there were panels available for the armed forces, all branches, they looked like pillow panels; I made a couple of throw pillows for my Army son, they are cotton and very washable. You might try Hobby Lobby or even look at Walmart.

What ever you do, it would be very pretty to repeat the rope pattern on the quilt that is on the flag. Barny

Great idea. I don't think the flag would hold up in a quilt. Perhaps you could find an applique pattern for the flag at the Quilts of Valor site.

I made a quilt for my SIL last Sept. when he was promoted to Chief, using a cotton Navy pillow panel as a center piece. It turned out beautifully and has been washed many times already since he used it all winter. I was fortunate that one of our board members sent me the panel but I have also seen them on Ebay for each of the military services. I would recommend something like that rather than the flag which may not wash well.
