I'm really enjoying the flying geese ruler from Quilt In A Day. It makes fast, perfect geese with almost no wasted fabric and no bias edges. Woo hoo! For me, it's been well worth the $6 or $7 I paid for it.
What "shortcut" rulers or tools do you like best? On the flip side, are there any rulers or tools that you consider a waste of time or money? (If you can't tell, I like gadgets ... a little TOO much sometimes! ) |
I love gadgets. I have a few winners and a lot of losers. But, my friends and family find it really easy to buy me a gift.

I never thought the large 24" square (or whatever size it is?) would be of any use. I won it from going on a Shop Hop.
Best.Thing.Ever. There are so many times I grab it for squaring things up, that now I wonder how I did anything without it. Get to know how to use your 45, 60, and other angles on the rulers. A lot of time they seem to go unnoticed and they can be so useful! |
One of my favorite things is a piece of cardboard with a 220 grit sandpaper wrapped around it and taped down with duck tape. Great for drawing diagonal lines, signing blocks, etc.

I love my June Tailor Shape Cut rulers. I have three of them and can't imagine life without them!
Also love my telescoping magnet for picking up pins, tools, etc. off the floor. |
OMG where do I start! I'm a gadget person also & have so many things I just love, love, love. I have my antique iron that gets really really hot, I love my 17" rotating cutting mat, my day lights that help me see clearly....my sharp scissors, my fabric. Gosh you name it, I couldn't do without any of it! I love sewing!!!!!!!!!

The Quilt in a Day triangle square up ruler is the best investment I have made. Sq up with one cut, cant beat that.

When I buy a pattern that calls for a specialty ruler I always buy it. I found the cutting and measuring much simpler using the ruler called for. Sure another ruler would probably work. I can say all of the rulers have worked great for the pattern I used it for. I just got this one last week. http://www.quiltinaday.com/shoponlin...ay.asp?i=30855

I have a Creative Grids 6½"x 2½" ruler that I use for cutting down scraps. Handy size.

I think my favorite 'tool' is the June Tailor mat that is a pressing board on the other side. I never use the mat because they dull blades, but I love the pressing side. If I am in a class, I can lay out my blocks, stick a pin in them, and they are good to carry home. I can carry the whole thing over to my machine...everything is all laid out...and I am ready to pick up where I left off! :)
