I finally finished all the blocks for my Baltimore Album and after hours of looking on the internet, books etc. I decided make a floral border for it, I now don't think that's the right choice it doesn't seem to go with the quilt, the roses on the center will be red, pink and yellow, I don't like swags so what other choices do I have?

ruthrings 09-20-2014 07:57 AM

I can't find a single fault with it. I can't offer other choices. I think it's gorgeous.

sewready 09-20-2014 08:10 AM

I like the border, I wouldn't want anything "too busy" to distract the eyes from the gorgeous blocks

fivepaws 09-20-2014 08:11 AM

I think the border will be perfect. Beautiful quilt.

Susann 09-20-2014 09:02 AM

I have to agree-beautiful!

Annie68 09-20-2014 09:09 AM

Oh definitely go with the floral border. What a beautiful quilt!

Barb in Louisiana 09-20-2014 09:09 AM

I like the border you chose but find that the scale of the border doesn't match the scale of the blocks. In other words, the applique in the border is too small. It just doesn't look right to me. I would pick some of the larger leaves from the blocks you have already done and use that size, even if it means you have to use less of them. You do have small leaves in some of the blocks, but the larger leaves and heavier flowers are what I focus on when I look at your quilt.

FYI....it is an absolutely beautiful quilt.

QuiltnNan 09-20-2014 09:17 AM

the border is great... but put the 'heavy' ends together in the opposite corners. then to tie it in a little more, i'd put a red binding on it.

Boston1954 09-20-2014 09:20 AM

I think it's perfect! Please keep going. You are almost there.

ManiacQuilter2 09-20-2014 09:21 AM

If you can. you might head for your local library and see if you can find anything you might think works better. If not. go look at Pinterest. I think it looks find but you are the one who will probably look at it daily.

It looks great without any borders! I love it, but have no suggestions to offer you. Great work.

I think I agree here, but oh my!! What a beautiful quilt!!

Such a beautiful quilt! I like the border you have here, but if you're not happy with it, definitely check out some photos of similar quilts for more ideas.

meyert 09-20-2014 09:55 AM

I like the floral border very much. You did a great job

rosiewell 09-20-2014 10:09 AM

Thank you all for your input, I think you are right Barb, the scale is small, I think I will applique 3 roses (slightly larger) on each corner and then three sets of roses on the long sides

Charming 09-20-2014 10:34 AM

Wow....i love your quilt. You just inspired me to maybe...possibly start my Christmas Baltimore :-)

Of course this is just my personal take on this and at the end it is your quilt, your efforts, and you are the owner who will be admiring it every day, but there is something about the border that is distracting me from the blocks. I can't really pinpoint but i guess i am seeing a wall of the prairie points that is separating the blocks from the border (clear as mud?)lol
Hope i made some sense to you and well done on a beautiful work

nygal 09-20-2014 10:34 AM

I vote YES for the floral border.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I am really looking forward to the finished quilt. You are doing some beautiful work there.

SharonTheriault 09-20-2014 10:38 AM

Try placing some larger leaves on the other side and see if the scale doesn't look better. It's a beautiful quilt and a wonderful idea for the border.

That would look beautiful. Your blocks are awesome!

nanna-up-north 09-20-2014 01:23 PM

Your quilt is beautiful and I agree with the comments that say to use the flower border, just make the leaves and flowers a little larger. I often put flowers in my borders. I feel like it tops everything off kind of like putting the icing on the cake.

Can't wait to see your finish. Awesome!!

twinkie 09-21-2014 04:06 AM

I think it is great just as it is. The only other border I could suggest is one that would frame the beautiful center of the quilt with applique floral as a cornerstone accent

illinois 09-21-2014 04:40 AM

What would it look like to do a solid border and let the quilting design there compliment your beautiful blocks. Maybe a vine with leaves such as are in the blocks. Or feathers are very popular.

solstice3 09-21-2014 06:32 AM

It looks great. How about repeating the red and whit border after the flowers to frame the whole thing

LITTLEOLDME 09-21-2014 06:47 AM

Looks like a winner to me, to busy of a boarder would distract from the beautiful quilt blocks.

I think this is a great suggestion! I love the border you have there just the way it is and if you do what QuiltnNan suggests, I think it would be awesome. Great quilt!

Texas_Sue 09-21-2014 07:16 AM

Awesome job! I really wanted to be able to applique, but I just don't have the patience for it.

red-warrior 09-21-2014 07:53 AM

Looks beautiful to me also.....I like Quilt nNan's idea of flipping it so the heavy ends are not together!

Onebyone 09-21-2014 07:58 AM

Beautiful quilt blocks. The floral border as is seems weak to me. The dark triangle inner border and sashing is very stark in contrast to the background so you need a border to compete with that for it to look balanced. I would use strong colors for the appliqued flowers and leaves. I would try the sashing color for the leaves and rich colors for the flowers in the applique border.

The blocks are lovely - but the first thing that caught my eye was the "prairie points" framing the grid. That frame seems "heavy" compared to the light grids separating the blocks.

BettyGee 09-21-2014 09:24 AM

I'd put a red border on it, but that's me. Your quilt is gorgeous and you don't want the border to detract from the beauty of the blocks so I think a thin border of red would do the job.

MargeD 09-21-2014 10:12 AM

Your quilt is gorgeous and I like your border, very nice.

carolynjo 09-22-2014 07:42 AM

You could just draw a wavy line in the center of the border, applique it and then alternate leaves on either side of the vine.

Karen Mc 09-22-2014 07:58 AM

I think this is beautiful!

quiltingnana1 09-22-2014 10:30 PM

zozee 09-22-2014 10:56 PM

I was going to suggest the same thing. Leaves on the opposite end for symmetry. It's a gorgeous quilt. So much time and hard work and variety. Kudoes to you. I'm also thinking it needs a wide red border to frame it.
