I would be happy with just about anything to sew on. I am using a TV tray. I would not buy Ikea, I would just hit garage sales over the next couple of weeks and look for an old desk or table of sorts. that way you can really see what you are wanting and needing in a good sewing table and can save up if what you have you don't like. I plan on taking the deck that I am using as a diaper table right now and turning that into a sewing table. it is just a kids desk that I got at a garage sale but it will work for me till i get a real place to sew.

I use a craft table - one of those inexpensive folding tables 18" x 24" - so I have a long lost that goes into mydream table. Space to either side of the machine is crucial. I also want a recess in which to place my machine to simulate a flat bed sewing machine. The rest, well, I can dream!

I too have the Horn sewing cabinet and the acrylic insert, though I got the cabinet with the fold down extension table on the back so I can quilt large quilts on my machine. It also has a shelf on the right that folds out to hold your serger or whatever else you want to put on it. If I'm not using my serger, I put any tools I need on the shelf or the next block I'm going to sew. I LOVE my sewing cabinet.

I agree with the yard sales! I found an amazing desk with a hutch for $30 by accident! I was looking for a bookshelf and they offered me this desk. It is solid wood and in really great shape! I love it, my machine fits right under the first shelf on the hutch perfectly. Also has plenty of room for spreading out also!
You never know what you find at a yard sale! Tracy |
