Zena thorpe book/hedgehog block

My sister tells me she wants a nature themed wall hanging. I noticed that Zena Thorpe has a block with a hedgehog in it in her book, " petit gardens". Has anyone done any of her stuff? I needle turn and the information given on the AQS site is that the blocks are small and the pieces tiny, so I'm wondering about needle turning them.

I was lucky enough to see Zena Thorpe and her quilts at a guild meeting 2 years ago. Her quilts are amazing! She can needle turn the smallest scrap of fabric. That doesn't mean just anyone can do it - I certainly couldn't. But you could always enlarge the pattern if that would make it more achievable.

just had a thought... if the pieces are tiny, maybe you can use fray check on the edges to keep them from separating during the turning.

Not familiar with Zena Thorpe, will have to look her up. I was going to suggest checking out McKenna Ryan. She does a lot of nature-themed projects.

making them larger would be the best suggestion. I hate needle turning.

Wow, she has some gorgeous quilts on her site. http://www.zenasquilts.com/

There is a pattern by Brandywine Designs I think called Critters that has some cute fusible appliqué designs, you might find something there with fewer pieces.
