zIppers for Sweetpea Pods?

I want to make the Lazy Girl Designs Sweetpea pods for next Christmas...they recommend YKK, Talon and some Coats and Clarks zippers...does anyone have a suggestion as to where to buy them in bulk?

PaperPrincess 01-08-2016 06:48 AM

I bought a mixed lot on ebay. Looked like someone was cleaning out their sewing room.

Not in bulk but cheaper than buying individually. Try Home Sew or Newark Dressmaker Supply. They are both the same company. There's also Wawak. Not sure how the prices compare.

This company was posted on Links and Resources and found zippers selling at this company. My best friend makes lots of little bags so she is always hunting down inexpensive zippers.

I recently had a thread with this same topic -- with many helpful suggestions made. One thing to consider in making these bags is that you want to find a source of zip pulls compatible with the zipper tapes -- if you can find the pulls, you have 2 zips for the price of one. If your source of extra pulls is incompatible with the tapes, then you are wasting half the zipper. So the cheapest zipper may not be the most economical.

Some stores sell zippers by the yard -- you can put multiple pulls on the yardage you buy. They are almost always basic colors like black, white and beige, but you do get a source of lots of pulls this way.

yes, half the zipper tape would be left over... but i saw the cutest flowers made by winding the zipper tape with the coil on the top side. lots of ideas here https://www.google.com/search?q=how+...utf-8&oe=utf-8

I would go for the best price myself. so what if you have to cut it?? I'm pretty frugal but I don't stress over every little scrap. Life's too short

Terri Atkinson (Atkinson Designs)has some really great bright zippers, and extra pulls available. Zippers come in different lengths. She also has some cute projects with zippers too!

girlygirlforme 01-09-2016 07:01 AM

Buy my zippers from zipit on Etsy. She has YKK and is very reasonable.

RST 01-09-2016 07:29 AM

Some of you posting are not understanding the issue -- you use half the zipper, as in one side of the tape, to make a bag. That leaves you with the entire length of the zipper, one side of it only, unused. Since I would never use a flower rosette, that would be waste for me.

Fortunately, it is possible to get extra pulls, and it can be a fun design element to mix and match the color of the pull with the tape/coil.

Check this website - http://www.wawak.com/ Fantastic prices on many sewing notions, including zippers of all types and sizes.

lindaschipper 01-10-2016 05:47 AM

Check Etsy out...I purchased them in bulk last year. Bulk in this case was about 20.

Dogwood Quilter 01-10-2016 06:01 AM

Zipit.com and The Zipperlady.com both carry the pulls. I've ordered from Zipit before and she has a very quick turnaround.

sewbizgirl 01-10-2016 06:22 AM

I buy all my zippers from Zipperstop.com in New York. They are a long standing family business and have been in their location for decades and generations. They have literally EVERYTHING. And the more you buy, the cheaper it gets.

Thanks for the imfo for us.

Love2craft: I understand your dilemma. I also want to make these cute little storage pods. I found a good source for the Atkinson zippers in many colors (which are YKK) and are made for this type purpose. You can also buy a bag of extra pulls in assorted colors from the same source. Right now the 14" zippers are only $.99 and shipping is reasonable. The pulls are in a bag of 30 for $8.49. (Although to use this many pulls you would have to make 60 pods! Lol)

I discovered that you can buy bundles of zippers, nice new ones, on Amazon for very little money. Give it a try? I buy them for coin purses and purses. Have used a couple on clothing and they wash just fine.

I buy lots of zippers from zipit for my purses. Their service, quality, and price can't be beat. Have not, however, made any sweet pea pods.

michelle-quilts 01-10-2016 01:45 PM

I agree with dottie dodge. I got a few extras when I ordered a lot of zippers and a coupon!

Ah, I get it. that was not how I was picturing it. really, though, you could mix the leftovers up and have cute zippers for other bags or projects. I think they would be great for zippered totes for kids

maryfrang 01-11-2016 05:26 AM

I got some from Home Sew. They have several different packages of zippers available all reasonable priced.

I have been getting them there for years. Great reps too, if you need to call them.

I had this discussion at a LQS too. If you get the additional zipper pulls it would give you many more options and a better use of your money so I'll stick with the Atkinson brand.

Sheddah 01-12-2016 06:50 PM

Thanks so much for the info on Zipit. Much better prices than my supplier and more size and color choices as well. I put in an order last night for zippers and extra heads (with pulls attached).
