Can any one give advice on the fabric die cutting machines? I have looked online at the Accut Grand Marke die cutter. It is quite expensive but the thought of perfectly cut fabric to work with is very enticing. Have any of you used this machine? Any advice? Thanks.

Johnette, I have a die cutter. I have used it. the biggest thing I have noticed is that I really have to figure how best to use and conserve my fabric. Some things are just better rotary cut than with the machine if you really like to utilize as much of the fabric as possible. As for the designs they have available...there are some really good ones and can lead to some truly unique and beautiful quilts. Cost is a big thing. I got mine second from a friend. They last , which is another quality....remember though even these blades can dull with too much paper going through. Nice thing is you can make templates as they will cut that. Make sure you will use the pieces versus the cost. You could check around and see if there is a crafter near you who is interested in reselling theirs....might be a better deal. Hope this is of some help.

Thanks for the reply. I had wondered if it would waste a lot of fabric. I was thinking I would like the strip cutter die and that maybe that one wouldn't waste as much fabric. I had also thought that IF I get one, I might possibly rent it out to a local quilting guild to try and recoup some money. Thanks again.

I have one of the strip cutter dies and they would be fine for doing vines and trellises sort of compositions....As for the fabric usage. if you are careful to cut the squares to fit the die size before you cut the shape you will cut down on the amount of material loss. still it is a little bit more than if you traced and cut on the fabric by hand...It ends up being a personal choice. You can make an edging also with some of the patterns. It requires folding the material so you can have a continuous repeat. Offering to rent the cutter. or providing a cutting service at your quilt store is an option as you say. Don't forget to take into account the varied tastes of quilters...Can cause you to stock up on dies real quick. If start with basics then go on...should be fine.
