Default How do I keep washable marker from washing out?

I'm repairing a t-shirt quilt for my son-in-law and one of the t-shirts has "signatures" from his kingergarten classmates in washable marker. Anybody know of a treatment to keep the markers from washing out?

if they are washable- they are going to wash out- you could go over them with a permenent marker or embroider over them
heat setting might make them last a little longer- but when washed- especially with detergent they will wash out. the only real way is to not get them wet....make it a wall hanging.
or go over them with something permenent

I would try Aleene's OK to Wash It, available at Joann Fabrics. Squirt a small amount into a bowl & add a little water, mix well and apply with a small paint brush. http://www.joann.com/joann/search/se...AOK+To+Wash-It

Sorry about the 2nd post. I painted this over photos that I put on a memory quilt. Washes beautifully. No fading. Paint the whole signature area.

You could also seal the signatures with a thin coat of gel medium; matte would probably look better than gloss. You can get it at Michael's. It has lots of uses in quilting.

Check the packaging with the markers, there is often a phone number you can call with questions. I've found the companies are very helpful when you have questions. There is often a department to answer your questions.

this sounds like a great product. do you wash it in hot water with harsh detergents? i always like to prepare for the roughest treatments.

I wash all my quilts in warm water with Tide detergent. As the quilt is for your son-in-law I assume he is married to your daughter. Simply tell her how to launder the quilt.

Thanks for the info. I will be making a signature quilt soon and this provided good information for a "just in case" situation.
