i was just reading another post about a store bought quilt and i am totally confused. do many quilters actually purchase a quilt from a regular store? that just really amazes me. just curious if it is common.

I purchased a King size wedding ring that years looks hand quilted for $19.00 years ago before I started quilting I still use it but it is getting pretty worn

I purchased a beautiful quilt from Bed Bath & Beyond a couple yrs. ago. It was perfect for the bed I needed it on & I could not make one with ribbon embroidery & queen size for what I paid. I do machine quilting, but not queen size.

I would if it is something that I would use outside or in the motor home with all my children. I do have several on the road quilts but they get a tremendous amount of wear and tear if used in the motor home, on the beach etc. Eventually I would like to have some more motor home outdoor quilts but in the mean time we use the few we have plus the store bought ones. Also I would feel sad if one of our home quilts would get lost when camping.

I have one on my bed right now. I no longer worry about my kids ruining it. It washes up beautifully and I wouldn't trade it for anything. I am making a new one for my bed but might keep this one also :)

My DM bought me one and 6 months later it was full of holes where the seams came apart. There was barely any seam allowance so it was falling apart.

all our bedding comes from the store.

a king size quilt costs thousands between materials and time - far too much to use for sleeping and washing every 3-4 days.

if my customers want to sleep and wash them all the time thats their business - once its out of my hands i don't care what happens to them - they can give it to the dogs for all i care.

I purchased a sample quilt from a quilt shop with dinosaurs for my 8 yr old. It was so perfect, affordable, and DONE. Bought a scrappy from a guild sale for my older boy. Other than that I wouldn't buy anything that was supposed to look like a patchwork quilt. Just me...

There really are no rules with quilting and quilts.

I paid big money a few years ago for a hand worked quilt made in Tibet. I love it. It's a rusty/red color with some kind of thick threading used to embroider it and mirrors all over it. To me, it is functional art. I use it for several months of the year - when kids aren't around - then switch to other quilts. That lets me change the look of the room with very little work.

My DH is worried that the quilt will be ruined by using it. I tell him that my enjoyment of it is ruined by not using it!
