Default Question about applique.

I saw Elaine's HST quilted by Charisma and I wondered how the black outlining got around the flowers and leaves on the outside border. I understood it was done by hand not machine. I like the way it looks.

here is a link to the thread http://www.quiltingboard.com/picture...a-t191786.html
i never noticed the black outlining, but it sure is a nice look. perhaps it is a narrow zig zag applying the applique by machine?

It look like to me that it is a simple outline stitch done very close together and holds down the edges instead of needle turn applique. JMO.

Yup. Looks like machine satin stitch. Nicely done.

Can it be machine satin stitched if the whole quilt was hand made? JMO.

"She hand pieced the whole thing from HST's to the Needle turn applique. Pretty amazing..it's all PERFECT!"

I thought it might be a really good hand embroidered stem stitch used to sew the appliques in place. Kind of like Red Work but with a fabric shape in the inside of the outline?

"I thought it might be a really good hand embroidered stem stitch used to sew the appliques in place." That's what I think. Stem stitch. Good Idea that I just might do

I enlarged it to 200% because I was interested in the outline also. It looked to be a satin stitch outline.

Since Charisma had the quilt in hand why don't you private message her and ask her?
