okay, I've been using cotton thread for quilting but here's my question:

Is it okay to use embroidery thread on the top for quilting?
I have a gazillion colors in embroidery thread (madeira, marathon, etc)..
I have considerable $$$$ invested in embroidery threads and wondering if anyone has used it to do quilting?

I have used rayon embroidery thread for machine quilting. I use it for decorative quilting, not stitch in the ditch. I think it looks great.

I have used it but only for wallhangings that will never get washed and dryed, and never will be ironed. I embroider with polyesther threads and they can melt at high temps. It is great because you can match your color better.

Assuming you mean machine quilting -

Unless you have a persnickety machine, you can use just about anything for quilting! I think it's best to keep a cotton thread in the bobbin, but some people use specialty threads there, too.

An embroidery needle might work better with some threads to prevent fraying.

Some battings might work better than others (preventing fraying, again).

I think I would restrict the use of non-cotton threads to decorative quilts, because bed quilts need to be washable and get more handling. I like to make sure my bed quilts are very durable. Cotton seems a better choice for that.

Yes, I have used it and it is beautiful. I wouldn't use the rayon tho because of the bleeding.
