question for all of you paper piecers

However you decide to print it, use this: http://www.rickytims.com/online-stor...8-5-x11-detail You don't have to tear it out. It's great when making a lot of pp blocks.

I generally use Carol Doak's foundation paper. 100 sheets for $8 or $9 (depends where you get it). I like to tear out the paper in the evenings and I have some tweezers to pull out the smaller pieces. I have also used the permanent foundation called "Fundation". But it is pricier and does lend some weight to the blocks. However it also gives some stability which is nice. I do NOT dampen the paper. Tiny stitches work the best for me.....I suppose that depends on the paper too.

I have the pattern I want to make and have printed the foundation template. In order to get the king sized quilt I want, I am looking at lots of prints of the template, so printing in my printer wouldn't be a feasible option. I know I can take it to a print shop, but is there a paper that can run through their copier that is thin? What kind of paper do you use. There are lots of seams that are close together, so I want something that will be easy to get off. I just tried dampening the paper, but what a mess.

I also love paper piecing and use regular printing paper with short stitch but have started to fold all my papers before sewing this means I don't have to use my little cardboard each time to trim as the fold is there and I just have to trim to my 1/4" and carry on to the next piece. I saw this way mentioned on the board here and thought to try it, really great tip.

I bought 8.5 x 11 newsprint - 500 pieces to a ream - for 3.56 per ream at dickblick.com. I bought two reams and even with shipping included I will be set for most of the rest of my life with newsprint! This paper is my favorite for paper piecing. It goes throught he printer just fine, takes a print great and is easy to take off when done sewing.

I love the RIcky Tims paper. It costs more but is worth every penny to me. I love to paper piece but hate to remove the paper. If I am doing a big project I use the Ricky TImms. For smaller projects I usually use the other papers suggested here. I just finished the Carol Doak 50 paper pieced stars group on here and I used the Ricky paper. It will go thru the copiers at Kinkos etc, or your home printer with no problems. I have used both. I look forward to seeing your project.

I recently used some from Nancy's Notions (velum) and absolutely LOVE IT! I have used the wash away stuff - didn't think anything about it when I sent it off to be quilted - white background with 30's fabric. When I washed it I was horrified that the white area was all gray. It took several more washings to get all the paper out, but it finally is all gone - never going to leave paper in again! Lesson learned!

If you have a teachers supply near you, there is a pack of standard sheet 8.5 by 11 of newspaper. The pack came in 500 sheets and cost $3.55. Make sure you keep it from humidity and will go though the printer fine.

If you have a local newspaper that prints there own news to paper. Contact there public relations dept. and ask of they give away the "end of rolls". The news print that is on there machines is changed before it actually runs out, and most places will give them away to the public. We used to get it for making large sports posters in high school. I know that was a long time ago (lol) but I just got some and traced the Agave Garden by Judy Neimeyer, because I want to make it more then once, took me about 8 hours, and it is the same size paper.
