In my area there are a few places that I donate to. The diabetes association for children is one. There is the local animal shelter, who lines the cat cage bottoms with small quilts and also auctions of larger quilts at the fundraiser. A yearly push for money to feed and support the animals.
.The firehouse is another place which appreciates small quilts for fire victim children. Some churches are a good place to donate to because they make up boxes to send to disaster areas when say an earthquake or flood causes people to lose everything.

I've made lots of charity quilts.
Size: many quilters make small (uses 1 width of fabric for the back). So I make lap size and up. I can usually find 5-6 yards from my stash that go together for whatever size that makes. rectangular are preferred over square
Gender: male needed.

There's a great childrens hospital in our area. The NICU requests basinette covers to block out the light onto the preme. They gave us dimensions and colors. They use sterilization techniques on them and keep them for the next infant.

Check with the group receiving your donations. Each makes there own desires list.

My son got one if those NICU covers when he was born at 32 weeks. I've never forgot it. But I also try to envision my son in situations where quilts are given out given that he's 14 now and 6 ft tall- I think I can sympathize with the need for big. Male donation.

My guild donates quilts to a local children's hospital. They prefer gender neutral quilts in bright colors. They also recommend smaller quilts of approximately 36"- 48" x 48" for the children who might be in wheelchairs. The hospital services children from infants to age 18. Here are two of the latest ones I made.
